Power steering problems

Hello all,

Looking for some help. Last week my 2009 Ibiza had a flat battery, jump started it fine and drove it that day about 90 miles. Next day, went to drive it and the power steering light was on and the steering really heavy.

Did a search online and there were a few post about this and the battery. Because of needing to jump start it and the battery being quite old, I replaced this but it hasn't fixed the steering problem (would it fix immediately if it was the battery?).

Next I read about the fuses. Fuse inside under dash is fine but I've also read about the one on top of the battery. Found this and believe it's the one connected to the loosened wire in the photo I've attached.

I was wondering if someone could give me idiot proof instructions at this point. What part is the fuse? How do I get the fuse out? Where can I buy a replacement one? Basically what do I do to see if it's the fuse that's the issue? I'd like to try this before resorting to taking it to a garage (and I like learning!).

The complete assembly is the fuses, I've never had to replace one, but I do remember looking at that "multi fuse" bit of metal, and I got the idea that you could just buy an "old style" single fuse of the correct rating and bolt it across where the blown fuse strip is.

Edit:- to check all these fuses, make sure that every wire is connected to the battery, I should really know which terminal is the incoming supply, but I don't, logic makes me think that the hidden end of that plate of metal that is the multi fuse array will be connected to the battery +ve terminal and all these wires are fused, maybe except the alternator feed/starter motor supply one.

Hum, maybe I'll change my mind on that, I seem to remember that you could still access both ends of every fuse link, but now that I see your picture, no! So that will mean, if you discover that one of these fused outlets does not have 12V on it then you would need to buy a new multi fuse assembly and bolt it in place of that one.

May also be the alternator. Not supply enough energy. Test if SW harder when light on and maybe radio or other electricity consumers and easier when all turned off, pay attention to slight diff..I'm not sure..

if it was it would work after replacing the battery, at least for like half a hour, untill battery flatens agains.

if the steering light is turned on, then I would say at this point its very likely to be the steering pump.

Regarding the fuse, connect the wire again and do a continuity test with the voltimeter between the two points in the image.

fuse seems ok from what I see, its under the plastic, if it break I think it would melt the plastic.
