Radio Fault ??

Finally got 'round to reading the owners manual for the sound system, and I think I've got a fault.
When I press the "AUDIO" button, the word "FADER" rarely appears on the display, so I am unable to alter the sound balance from front to rear. It did appear yesterday, when I was tinkering with the settings, but wouldn't come on today :confused:.
All the other readouts appear but not the word "FADER" above the far right hand button.
Looking at the service history, there was a fault highlighted at the last service (6k ago), which stated that the "BLUETOOTH" was permanently connected, and that the unit was faulty and should be replaced, but there is no mention of this being done. I have subsequently purchased the car from the previous owner, and the warranty has now expired. If it is faulty, am I entitled to ask for a free replacement, as the unit was diagnosed as faulty whilst still under warranty ??

Hi altea phil,

had just the same probs when my Altea Sporty was delivered 3 1/2 years ago ... as modelyear 2006 was one of the first coming with CD2+MP3 (partno: 5P? 035 186, same as CD3).

We found out, that there is a software bug in the first version (mine had 0014) and that the FADER prob wasn't solved until version 0017.

To find out, which sw-version your radio unit has ...

turn radio on => RADIO/FM => hold AUDIO-button for 3 secs.

I've got my headunit changed on regular warranty ... you're mentioning, that it was diagnosed within warranty time limits, but over in Germany I know from my dealer, that it should then be reclaimed at the manufacturer immediately.
If then the actual replacement takes longer than the warranty lasts, it's no prob ...

greets ... Klaus

Just spoken with the dealer in question (Hobin of Preston), and all was not as seemed...

Apparently when they checked the unit, they found a 1 dollar coin inside :-o, so ultimately decided that the fault was not covered under warranty !! (Something to do with the previous owners small children perhaps ?????).
It would appear that the radio was fixed elsewhere, as apart from the minor "FADER" fault, it now works okay, and they said that they are not aware of the software fault mentioned above, and that SEAT would charge for an upgrade :(:(

Look's like I will just have to live with it !!

Well, imho SEAT will definitely charge if the problem wasn't officially recorderd (and worked on) within the 2 years warranty .... and concluding from the SW-version (as yours is even lower than mine was), your Altea is at least as old as 3-4 years.

Not aware, hmmm ... so they learned sth. new :D

I circumvented the intermittend FADER-fault by storing specific SOUND settings, where the fader has different levels (front/rear) ... so when having the whole familiy aboard and FADER option is missing, you still can manage to level loudness with the sound presets.

Cheers for the advice gents.
Like I said, it's something that I can live with, and it actually came on briefly this afternoon, so I was able to fine tweak the front-to-back balance, and will now leave it alone !!
