I'm keen to know what existing Leon think of any options they had put on their car. For instance, has anyone gone for the Xenon's with AFS? They're not cheap but are they worth the money? Heated seats are much cheaper but are they any good either?

What would be good if people could put down what options they went for and if they would order them again on another new Leon...

TIA,

Chris.

Hi

I sort of went mad with options on mine.... I would recommend the xenon headlamps 110%... although mine are pre AFS, they are well worth the extra if you drive a lot in the dark. It was a common known problem with the Leon Mk1, like my 03 Cupra, that the headlamps are useless... which is why I had the upgrade. It is just like driving in daylight...excellent option.

I also had heated seats, small thing, but great whilst waiting for the heater to warm the car:p

If you look below you will see all the options I had... £2.5K of them.... must have been mad! but I would have them again.. all very useful additions.

Reverse parking sensors: Handy as im rubbish at parking, and its not the best visability. does the job great.
MP3 Stereo: Handy, cheap option.
CD Changer, Handy as i have lots of CD's in the car.
Spare tyre, well speaks for itself.

Heated Seats - great when its a cold morning and your waiting for the heater to get up to temp.

Bluetooth - being able to scroll through the contacts in your mobile phone just looking at the trip computer display is great and the safety aspect of not having to actually touch your phone is a plus point.

MP3 - Included with the Bluetooth kit but as it was only £25 i would have spec'd it anyway. 130 tracks on 1 cd need i say more??

Sunroof - excessive when its got climate control but i love the extra light that it lets into the cabin.

Autochanger - better than having loads of CD's in the car but shame that it doesnt play MP3 tracks as that would have been amazing!

Rain/Light Pack - Auto Lights and wipers plus fancy rear view mirror. Automatic lights just make you lazy but its good when you go through tunnels or tree lined lanes. The wipers are a god send - think of them as a very clever intermittant option and you wont go far wrong. Photochromatic rear view mirror is ok but doesnt react fast enough sometimes. The red LED downlights from it are very cool though!!

Excellent, thanks folks but keep them coming.

Shame that the CD changer option doesn't handle MP3 (data) CDs but I'm not surprised (not to mention it doesn't seem be an option anymore).

Hi,
TDI Sport so on top of the Climate control etc
I Specced:
Sunroof (recommended as it makes the cabin less oppresive)
MP3 as there seems to be a lack of aftermarket options available
Heated seats (had them on yesterday cos it was cold and they are worth every penny)
extra rear airbags (I'll let you know if they are worth it if they save my kids lives when I crash)
Wish I'd gone for the Bluetooth as it gives the biiger display and sick of recharging my earpiece.
Not to bothered about Xenon as the replacment bulbs are a tad expensive

Most importantly spec the right colour (which is of copurse Lunar Grey)

You realise that with those rear airbags they don't recommend falling asleep with your head angled towards them? Seems like a potential double-edged sword.

2.0 TDI Sport . I went for Full seat body kit with 18" alloys, twin pipes, chrome mirror covers. In black magic . The car is fantastic sits well on the road, Looks mean with the kit is chunky and solid and can shift some, Oh yes and it does turn heads. This is my first seat car, I must say I am well impressed with it . The full kit isnt cheap but for me it makes the car.
Cheers Guss

I was reading this months EVO review of the FR and noticed in the pic of the interior that the are 2 buttons either side of the heater controls (but couldn't make out what they were). These were blanked out the in the car I test drove. I suspect that the blanking plates are used to house the buttons of one of the optional extras, anyone know which options these control (heated seats at a guess ????)

If it is the 2 blanks on the very end, it is for the heated seats .

Think I went pretty mad with the optional extras as well.

MP3 - Almost all my music is MP3 anyway so it makes sense, the only thing that irritates me is it's difficult to find a specific track when you have 100+ tracks on there
Bluetooth - I bought this primarily because it came with the MP3 and the bigger MFD, turns out it actually works well with my phone and have used it several times with no problems
Xenons - Only used them a couple of times in proper darkness but they seem much brighter than my old Leon
Heated seats - not had chance to use these yet as it really hasn't been that cold but in the dead of winter I will probably wish they came with heated steering wheel as well :)
Auto Wipers - Brilliant, not only do they stop that annoying issue of 'screwping' wipers but at high speeds they seem to go in to some mode that gives you two wipes for the price of one by stopping in the down position before coming back up.
Auto Lights/Mirror - Again I've not driven in the dark often enough to notice the mirror that much (though mine doesn't have red down-lights as someone mentioned above). The Auto Lights work ok, I like how they come on when the wipers are going but I find them a little sensitive to light, increasingly over the last couple of weeks I've found them coming on a going off every few minutes because I am driving down a road with overhanging trees.
Spare tyre - If I have a flat tyre I want a replacement ready to go not some bloody foam!
Parking sensors - Best thing ever! As with the old Leon the rear-window is only good for spotting low flying planes so these were a must for me. I'm not so good at reverse parking and in my old Leon I would find myself shuffling in to a space only to get out and find enough space behind me to park a smart car. When I first bought the car I tested it by reversing at the garage door needless to say I had to get out twice convinced I was going to hit the door while it was still pipping.

Ive got a new fr tdi these are the options i got-
18 inch alloys are fantastic and in my opinion dont affect the ride as its already rock hard.
Conveniece pack is good i had auto wipers and the auto dimming mirror on my toyota avensis tourer and they worked really well on that aswell.
The ipod connector i havent used though as i havent got one yet! If the company car tax wasnt as much i probably would have got the sat nav aswell but maybe next time!

I have the sparewheel as a £25.00 option on my Sport TDI purchased in March. Also MP3 which was an extra cost option then but standard on the 2007 model. I also got the parking sensor for free (sorry to anyone who ordered a car from Thompson & Thompson Caldicot and found they were missing the sensor when it was delivered - must have got added to my order form by mistake as I never asked for it!)

The sensor is quite good but can be a pain especially when reversing off my steep drive.

Things I wish I had gone for include the xenon headlights - standard are not bad but could do with extra range on dipped - also the bluetooth kit and if it had been an option then a connection for MP3 player - maybe next time:doh:
