got up early to wander into town to replace the power drill my dad gave me for my 18th birthday after it died in a cloud of smoke :( black and decker slow start hammer with all the toys bearing in mind that was 20+ yrs ago it was the daddy buty anyway :) got a new one £30 job done - lol

to cheers myself up i tidied up a bit and added some slabs to keep my motor up out the grass etc and filed away the tube i had put by as a spreader bar and decided it was boring as a straight tube

escpecially when i had seen a few about like this

DSCF3849.JPG

i grabbed the scimitars original strut brace / rad mount bracket and chopped the ends off welding in some washers/nuts etc to mount it and after adding a slice to adjust my wrong angle cut/weld :whistle:it was straight

ragged the bracket off and a quick spray over for now (clean up proper later) and voila

if anyone has a 12" tall and 8" round mini beer keg i realllly reallly wanna know where and how ;) especially after i remembered the gasser style front tanks like this

ooho and a big up to a mate of mine at the local 4x4 breakers who whilst crashed out in the sun yapping for an hour this am came up with the idea of lowering my engine on mounts inside the chassis to give me more room for the headers / steering column and inside etc

the Landrover Discovery tdi mounts fit a treat ;) well they will once i've welded up yet more brackets

final wheelbase measures up though

F - 1345mm
R - 1480mm
L - 2850mm

given the dimensions it would all fit snug under a mk2 toledo shell in proper funny car dragster style - oooh tempting - lol

shame i only have a Mk3 Cupra shell lying about - any swappers ?

not much to report as it's been too freaking cold :) but took the cylinder heads off to find out why my long standing 'used to turn over daily' engine no longer turns over :)

water in bores = rusted solid

don't worry though :) have a complete running spare + 2 spare bottom ends anyway :funk:

at least it will be lighter to drag back in the chassis this week

as snow/crap is going I've started adding to the list of many cars for parts by another 3 recently

Triumph Dolomite aluminium steering rack mount brackets (self exp.)
Lotus Elan chassis member (modded for above to mount mini steering rack)
peugeot 206 susp arm mounts (for mounting the mk3 escort rear tie bars:))
Morris Minor steering column mount

actually 4 but last 1 is still in post and i'm in 2 minds of using it at present

i'll post pics up soon but ill now mean i can finally mount the steering + rear suspension next week and get the engine etc back in to get the floor/frame done for that :) woohoo

must make a list of what all this crap is coming off/from but then that's all the fun of it for me really :)

saxo/106 etc front suspension arm rear mounts - got em from work ;) they do em in polybush and solid ali too for future mods - lol

*update - been working on engine mounts and self made dexian engine crane (works-just)
will pics up when i can let go of the rope without smashing the sump up
but add Mitsubishi shogun tow hitch and L Rover Discovery 3 to the list of cars vultured as the
engine mounts are a Frankenstein of both

spare engine collected also - can never have too many V8's in a garden

With a bit of measure/cut/weld/grind/weld/paint and luck the engine mount's are sorted and are holding it all in situ as they are

Gotta sort out the 4 bolts each side yet to secure em 100% but all looking solid and enough room to get wiring/brake pipes past as hoped and finally now also have adjusted and made the gearbox mount spacer to the right height so the rear drive flange is the same level as the diff

more by luck than anything else though :lol:

*day off for a change

finally settled on the mini rack so i dug out the triumph vitesse ali mounts i had and headed off to the old man's for a bit of improvised machining

336069000232.jpg
337069000232.jpg

clamped em up with a 1mm spacer each side (to make em round) and set about slowly drilling through with a core drill i had that was perfect size.

335069000232.jpg
340069000232.jpg

surface is a little more scarred than you would get with a lathe proper but that works for me as it will be more 'grip' over the rack anyway

346069000232.jpg
348069000232.jpg

as the chassis is boxed i dropped in some tubes and plates to strengthen up the engine mount holes - lot stronger and tidier now
