This morning after leaving my car for 12hours+ iwth the handbrake on, I tried to pull away, only for the back brake to stick on for a moment, then release.

I've searced and someone has put about getting springs for the break calipers, just wondering if anyone has done this, and if so did it help.

Thanks

They are parts from an Audi A3, so find your local VAG specialist, or you should be able to get them from Audi or VW. I got mine from a local independent dealer. All the info you need is on the other forum.

Are you sure you need the spring's! Was this not just a case of the pads sticking to the disc due to damp conditions, when you pulled away the pads broke free.

Every car I have owned with rear discs have suffered this if the handbrake is applied in wet conditions and left overnight.

Just a thought:shrug:

My rear brakes always used to squeal a little when manoeuvring slowly, it was annoying and ~£4 stopped the annoyance. If parked up for a few days then yes they can stick on a little, if the rain has made it on to the discs.

Agreed with the above, mine often does this when it has been raining.

It wasn't raining it all, clear skies, i did put my car through a car wash, but i drove it a bot after, only had the car for 3 weeks, wanted to extra safe, if i have to pay £4 as a precationary then some other money down the line, i'm not too bothered.

Probably the easiest way to tell is drive the car then check how hot the discs are when you get back. If the pads are dragging on the disc, then the disc will get very hot.
If it were a case that the pads had just stuck to the disc and released themselves when you drove off, then you would expect the disc to just get warm.

I only suggest this as from your initial description it sounded likely (to me anyway) to be the cause. You may wish to fit the springs anyway, it would do no harm. But pads sticking to the disc is quite common.

There are no springs there in the 1st place..on mine at least.

Rear caliper brakes are prone to sticking on any car especially when the handbrake has been on for periods of time in bad weather. I service mine every four month or so by stripping out the pads and cleaning and copper greasing everything up and if I leave the car for any great length of time a leave the handbrake off where possible. Regular simple maintenance to your rear breaks will keep them working fine all year round. Neglect will inevitably see them sticking on.
