Reasons to like the LCR

I'm hoping to buy an LCR next year when I finally turn 21! I have a 1.4 16v Clio at the moment which isn't to bad to drive around in.... lol

I need some reasons to make me want a Cupra R more! I've heard they are not that good when it comes to B roads but a nice set of coily's should sort that out :)

I've been on the forum a while now and have been searching around at different mods people have done etc but I've never really been to sure which order to do them in... Like I presume it would be best to get uprated parts before a remap where as I've seen on the forums people saying "Just get a remap, it will be rapid!" lol

Cheers, Adam

depends what you want.

i had my remap and zorst done, then noticed the handling so went the suspension route.

much better to get the car and mod it as you feel its needed. many have fitted front strut braces to help but ive found the rear arb is enough on my particular set up. others may not agree.

all comes down to how you drive:D

In my own little world.....
Hi Adam

Not to "rain" on your fireworks (how old to I sound?!) and I know you wanted reasons to get one but get an insurance quote sorted first of all (group 17)...... this might sway you to another model, and also MPG - I was looking to get an R but with a dear friend kept telling me to sing in my head "22MPG" for an hour (She owned one and yes you can drive like a saint, but with that car would you really?) I've gone for a diesel FR now!

End of the day it's your choice - the R looks one of the meanest, sexiest cars around IMO. A real head turner and a good reason to get one, but I just couldn't bring myself to buy one in todays climate. Just an idea, why don't you just get a normal 20vt and put the Cupra R bumpers on etc?

Keep us updated and defo post some pics up if you get one - good luck with the "searching process" this is one of the most fun parts of buying a car!

being even older than karen... id actually forgotten about insurance:redface:

20vt may well be the better choice.... and its just as tunable as an lcr. in fact many early 01/02 leon cupra 20vt came with leather and extra toys.. :)

The 20vt will be cheaper to buy and run (tax, insurance, fuel, tyres, brakes) but only by a little, by the time you have done a few mods on the 20vt you may aswell have got the Cupra R.

I have a small regret of getting the 20vt instead of the cupra R but I needed a car quickly and the 20vt is still a good car.

Adam, i'm 21 with an LCR. Yes economy is pretty shocking after driving a 1.4, and tax is pricey. Insurance isn't cheap, although having a parent as a named driver on the policy helps a lot. But, wow, what an amazing car it is! Who told you it was bad along b-roads because i'd have to disagree! I live in the sticks and drive mainly on country lanes and the lcr eats them up!
Reasons to get one:
It sounds awesome.
It looks superb.
Goes bloody quick.
Can be used in all situations (crawling in traffic to thrashing it around the countryside)

most people know the LCRs weak link was the suspension, i found this out a couple of weeks after purchase...MAJOR understeer moment, nearly pooped it lol....LCR owners made the compromize....
most peeps agree the single most popular mod befoe you go the coilover route is to purchase some neuspeed ARBS..im going for 25mm front 28mm back (will be group buy
within a couple of weeks)

thrashing a LCR on B-road sometimes scares the hell out of me, i have had it kick out (nearly) on me...but as above my ARBS should sort this. i have 15mm spacers on rear and a front strut brace which help hugely

i'll agree with bret, arbs make a massive difference; i've only got the rear one; but have the s3 strut brace up front and it is very neutral handling..

its fast! and amazingly good looking (unlike the majority of its owners) the leon cupra has all the good looking owners!
but being serious, its a great car, well specced and you wont be able to stop smiling!

Thanks for all the replies, wasn't sure I would get any lol or just be told to search!

With being only 21 I have been worried about insurance and was thinking whether to buy a clio sport (after owning a clio and wanting it to be faster! lol) but decided I would rather love a turbo'd car that is as sexy and is easily tunable. I'm not to worried of the costs as it will be my main hobby so all my money has gone into my car at the moment and i'm loving it! :p

Just to answer 'traumapat' I'm mainly after a high speed bus that I can get all my mates in whenever and be able to drive anywhere we want without compromising speed :) as with my old car get more than 1 passenger and it's sooo slow!

Would want it around the 300bhp mark when finished (I'm not expecting all this straight away btw, it will be a project type car) and would really like it to handle as good as possible. Will have another search for it now but just incase I don't find anything OR what i'm specifically looking for what would be the best (not cheapest, but also putting this slightly into consideration as im not made of money) way of getting it to around 300bhp and allowing it to handle the power?

Cheers again and sorry about the essay!

to get 300bhp you are looking at a big turbo upgrade and the ancillaries to go with it. 275 ish is possbile with remap etc on standard turbo (based on figures from other members cars). bear in mind in standard form the lcr is a lot lot lot faster than a clio 1.4

You Need some reasons to like the cupra R.?....................... You nuts????????????

The lcr Speaks for it self...... its a legend and a monster at the least!

you drive a clio!! ditch it and come to the Seat side of life!!

bit of advice!
I would get a Cupra R first!! And learn how to respect it first, from a clio to a LCR you will proberly write it off!!!!!!!!! remaps, chips, i think your ahead of your game here!!

but fair play everyone has to start some where!!!! lol

cheers......................
let me know when you get one!!!

cause insurance will want at least £1600 fully comp to insure you! at 21!!!!

i'm going there next year, i'm waiting for my 1 yr ncb! i was on my dad's policy until i was 21, and despite having 4 yrs claim free driving, i have no ncb so greenlight wouldn't insure me (fair enough).

haha at write it off! I could have a 1000bhp Cupra but who says I can't control my right foot? I know i'm ahead of my game and I've said it before in this thread, I would rather see what i'm getting myself into before I buy the car!

I also didn't know about the insurance group going upto 18 for 265+bhp cars.... How did you find out about that?

I will hopefully have 2 years NCB in feb next year and with being 21 i'm hoping insurance won't rape me that much... *fingers crossed* I'm going to try places like Adrian Flux, Greenlight and Virgin. Thanks for all the info guys, appreciate it. Don't really appreciate people telling me i'm going to put my car into a ditch though as you don't really know me but I suppose it's fair enough when a new kid comes along shouting about wanting a 300bhp LCR! lol
