Recall - speedo and dials

Had my Altea 2.0tdi dsg serviced today - on time (12 mths) rather than on mileage. This inspection service cost me £203 - there was £40 worth of oil, and no description of how many litres this was to see if I was conned. Charged for washer additive and by the colour of the fluid, they just topped up what I'd already got in there.

Anyway, I digress. They say it needs to come back for a change of dash instruments. Just wondered what this was all about as they couldn't tell me?

They put right the boot lock, adjusted the window seals for wind noise on the front doors (which now roar louder) and it needs a new radio.

It sure was good to get it back though.....!!

change of instruments is a new one on me. I wonder what this is about? My speedo over reads by some margin, but I wouldn't have thought it was a big problem.

maybe the change of instruments has to do with the dot matrix display (large MFD) ... then this one here might help:

No news on the instruments yet.

However, the service warning came on today, despite being serviced last week on time, not mileage!

Dealer servicing is not cheap and I wonder what they actually do for the cash. They charged for the washer fluid additive and it looks like what I already had in there was just topped up - will tell them to leave the new bottle in the car next time, at least I know I got what I paid for then.

Still, only one (maybe two) more service and I can get it to a specialist.......

they definetly didn't care for resetting the service interval correctly ... which - AFAIK - has to be done with every full service, no matter if caused by milage or time, as this is due either once a year or within 15000km (sorry, coming from abroad) ... whatever comes first.

So you better see your dealer for that anyway, as it has to be done via OBD-connect.

Thanks Klawit - had a call today and the parts are now in (instrument cluster and radio). They still couldn't tell me why it needs the instruments changing but I will enquire more next week when it goes in. Will let you know what they say.
