Thinking of a stage 1 remap but dont know if i want to fork out for a revo map at 720 quid. Anybody had any experiences with custom maps on a mk3 cupra ? Good or bad? Anyone got any recommendations for the yorkshire or north east area? Few people at work have mentioned big fish tuning in middlesbrough.

Funnily enough, I had my Cupra 300 DSG remapped yesterday.

I used a small, local company (Performance Edge Remaps) who specialise in Remaps and who have done lots of Golf Rs (same engine) as well as other Cupras.

My remap cost £250 including a lifetime warranty and free re-installations (if for example the ECU was flashed back to stock following a service).

My gains were:

- 296BHP (300PS) increased to 366BHP (+70BHP)
- 380NM torque increased to 470NM (+90NM)
- Increased throttle response
- No effect on fuel economy

Matt (who remapped my car) was brilliant and explained everything before I took my car to him. We took the car for a drive once it had been remapped to make sure I was 100% happy before I paid.

The biggest difference I noticed (besides the extra power!) is just how much quicker the car responds when you kick it down to overtake. Where before there was a slight delay while the turbo spooled up and the gear dropped down, there's now next to no delay at all. Just bury your foot and you're gone..!!

I realise the company I used are a bit far away from you as they're based in the Midlands, but for anyone more local I would thoroughly recommend them

Cheers buddy just dont think i can justify 720 quid for a revo. But its good to get some ideas. And a drive to the midlands wouldnt be too bad. Was it a custom map you got then?

720 is expensive for a map, you should be expecting to pay in the region of 4-500 or 5-600 with Dyno

There are others like the are not the "named brands" (Revo, Apr etc" that will be cheaper

Given its October, I'd wait 2 months and get one in the Christmas new year sales.

Apr near me is £560 with Dyno just now. They are usually £499 around Christmas new year period. Don't know about Revo but guarantee they have a sale too....

Yes it was a custom map. They're based in Kingswinford if you wanted to check them out.

He told me that they 'mask' the software so that dealers can't see that it's been mapped... I have to admit I took that with a pinch of salt as I don't think there's any tuning company who can hide their remaps now. But he did also say that they will reinstall the map free of charge if the dealer wiped it during a service.

Yeah ignore the "masked from dealers" comments, total BS that.....have to wonder though if that's what they say, does it loosen your trust in their maps, it would for me.

Thats sounds like a good idea. Would you recommend custom or generic though? Ive had a lot of people telling me custom is much better as it takes the condition of the engine and car into account.

Yes I thought as much too, I know mine will show the TD1 flag as soon as the dealer plugs it in. I'm just going to tell them that it's an approved mod (car is a lease but I have written authorisation from Seat Financial Services), and ask them very nicely not to flash it back to stock..!

Custom is better, but expect to pay more for it.....

There's nothing wrong with generic stage 1's and I don't believe you would get much more, if any for a custom stage 1 over Revo generic or Apr for example.

For me custom maps come into it when you start changing hardware as there are so many different bits and bobs out there. Stage 1, all stock hardware, why not a stock stage 1.

Just had a quote of £395 for a custom map. Thats a map for both the ecu and gearbox at big fish tuning in stokesley. As recommended by a couple of guys at work. Reviews seem good as well. Early xmas present maybe? Lol they said to expect around the 355 bhp mark.

I get Will at Performance Torque in Wolverhampton to do all my custom mapping. Just like my other cars, the map on my 280 has been faultless on road and track, it’s ridiculously quick. I had a more gentle map initially, just for the engine, and it made 350 but felt quicker. I then had the DSG map and it made 376 very strong horses judging by the stuff it can leave behind on track. There are several video links knocking around on here with the various stages at Oulton, Rockingham etc.

For anybody still in two minds about whether or not to go for a remap...

This is my commute to work this morning, a mix of small main roads and town (no motorway or dual carriageway)..

Admittedly I didn’t gun it, but this is driving normally.

Bear in mind this is a 370bhp car now..!!

It just goes to show that an increase in performance doesn’t necessarily mean an increase in fuel consumption too..!

I usually get mid 30’s overall, which is great considering how much fun I have. I’ve been drive our JCW this week and the wife has had my car, she managed 27 mpg including a fair bit on the motorway, which begs the question how on earth was she driving it :O she said it was a fun week...

@Tully1980 I fully agree with what you have said that it does not have to affect your fuel consumption.

This is a common quote from tuning companies "Dependent on your driving style, this software will deliver like for like fuel economy in 'normal' driving conditions."

If you drive the car in non aggressive mode then fuel economy should be roughly the same however if you use your right foot then there is a bug in the car and the fuel evaporates and mpg figures go down (No errors are showing on my OBD11 Scan or VCDS for that matter).

On my last track day I think I went down to something like 12mpg but it was worth it.
