Cupra wins all the numbers but still ends up finishing last, got the usual poor quality of interior materials and lack of steering feel. Still, at least it beats the Focus RS in a straight line!

I hate how they always have it in for the SEAT. He says the meganne 250 cup "reigns supreme" on this circuit in these conditions, when it's slower. Making excuses for the Renault by saying that it had the worst conditions is pathetic. I bet if they took it out again at the end it would still be slower.
Anyway, it's a shame SEAT didn't do the LCR properly, that poxy XDS is apparently really bad, and as for the fact that they say the GTI handles better, I'm truly disappointed. SEAT used to be the sporty VAG sibling. Oh well, at least they didn't make it so good I had to go and spend all my money on one, happy with what I got thanks!

New issue of Evo had an interesting article in it about how Seat is completely pointless as no-one would in their right mind choose a Seat over a VW, as they're shite in comparison.

It's a perfect summary of how motoring journalists view Seat, and why one will never do well in a group test. It's an inferior product to them.

i really thought they should of made the new LCR much more aggressive, when the mk1 came out i thought it was the most aggressive thing i ever saw (circa 2003).....lets be honest a hot hatch will never be bought 'to fit in' or 'for everyone'....a hot hatch will be bought by enthusiastic drivers so manufacturers should make them as aggressive as they can

I would say the exact same thing to those people who buy EGO magazine. They are all up their own asses and I dont know why people buy that predictable tosh called a magazine.

Pretty obvious to me why SEAT exists. Its people who want a good quality car, without the VW premium due to improved interior. I drive my cars, not masturbate over the scultped seats of soft touch interior.

Priced up as VW Golf R today, and a equivelant spec audi S3 was cheaper. The golf R is pointless and no one in their right mind would buy one

I think the fact we're on this site means we don't agree with the motoring press point of view about Seat, no?

Evo is still a good read overall, and much better than most of the other magazines out there.

Its too predicable to me. I dont need to read their mag to know what their verdict will be.

I'm not a journalist but I am a man of the world and I know you can get what you want if you are willing to pay. I'm guessing the guys in the SEAT marketing department haven't learnt this yet or aren't willing to give any back handers

Seat does take a hammering and the Cupra R has more in common with the Scricco R than the MKIV Golf GTi. The interior could be better the real culprit is the 3 piece centre console with unsightly caps, it feels solid just does not look it, same goes for the climate controls a bit of aluminium would make them feel weighter and of greater "Quality" as in the Golf that has the same climate control.

As in my previous Leon it is attention to detail that Seat lack, they make an excellent looking and performing product just miss off the final bit of polish. Maybe the Cupra R should have stolen the adaptive suspension from the Scricco R? Bias aside it is that final bit of handling finesse that Seat's seem to get criticised for. Maybe it is just cheaper dampers and bump stops? But £ v Bhp the Cupra R cannot be beate and as shown on the Evo vid is a pretty dam quick car. Then at over 4K cheaper than an Focus RS 7K less than a Golf R and 5K than a Scricco R a perfomance bargin.......

The actual output of the Leon was more than the Focus when they dynoed them:blink:

:D

how did they work that out?

the new cupra just does not do it for me , its not exactly eye candy? i would take the RS any day , as they said on B roads it destroys them and has been named top front wheel drive car to date in another mag , the scirroco R has more appeal to me than the Cupra R

The rocco R is half sensibly priced aswell I suppose. 3 more grand than the cupra r, however the golf itself is just priced OTT these days.

All of the german cars have been getting stupidly expensive lately, like the mk6 gti, 2.0TFSI with a few options is over 30k, bmw's 320 coupe also over 30k, its just madness. If im gonna be paying 35k for something I would expect it to be half quick, and not only have around 200hp.

Something wrong with that focus if it didnt make 300bhp, other reviews have them coming out at anywhere from 298 to 305bhp stock. To make 20bhp less would tell anyone that there is something wrong. Even so, the Focus RS is not a track car.

Great test. The one thing for me with the new Leon is that it just isn't as nice as it SHOULD be. The MK1 Cupra R is a beauty and I couldn't wait to see what Seat would do with the MK2. Then when it came out I was disappointed. All of the other cars in this test are lookers, nicer than the Leon. That is why I'd rather have one of the others, if the performance between them is, as this test proves, minimal.
