Hi All

Wanting to know if anyone has retro fitted the silver flat bottom FR Steering from a 2009+ model to a pre facelift?

If so, can it be done?
Does the multi function steering buttons still work?
Also is the new steering wiring harness plug and play to the old wiring?

Finally, if anyone gt any pictures that would be great!!

Thanks All

Trust me I have been there and what a waste of money.
The flat bottom steering wheel will fit strait on to a mk2 1P not a problem at all.

The issue is that you have to change the steering wheel module to a version that the flat bottom one was off.
You need to make sure you use a Highline steering module with CC, on board computer, multifunction steering wheel functions the FR with the flatbottom wheel has this part number 1K0-953-549-CH
Type 2 SW 0111 Highline Yes 1.3 & 2.0, Then programe it in Vag com for your car.

You will still have the ABS/Traction lights on your dash. You will now need to replace the can-bus module to the following CAN-BUS 7N0907530AF and then get that re programed to your car by a vag specialist then it will work.

A pain in the butt hence why you dont see any one who has done it on here only me i think...

MFSW Airbag Harness p/n 1K0 971 584 C . this one is very important;
MFSW Control Module p/n 1K0 953 549 CH (Must used with colector ring 1K0 959 653 C) - Very very important to use tape to stop slip ring from moving, if new do not remove the red seal until fitted if used look for two little arrow before fitting they are difficult to see is very very small arrow

You still need to have the CAN-BUS 7N0907530AF from the newer face lift and reprogram it for your car.

My advise would be to source the parts and then visit a VAG Seat specialist to program them to your car. The vag com part is easy its the CAN-BUS 7N0907530AF that is the difficult part.

Look on http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/ it shows you charts to what parts you need, also check the forums on ross tech.

Was just adding that the pair ( 1K0 971 584 C and 1K0 953 549 CH ) need to be replaced together
I have facelift car, replaced it because with old radio I could see radio station on dashboard then I swapped to newer RNS315 from Passat cc and it stop showing anything I didn't change the slip ring as I have FL just the MFU

So I need air bag harness is this because the connections on the air bag are different?

The control module for the for the steering wheel controls?

Also the cabbie 7n090..... What's the purpose of that?

I'm sorry if I'm making this painful I just really want it done on mine.

I have a sport tfsi it's the most basic steering wheel you can get but my car is running over 300bhp and I just want a sporty steering wheel :)

MFSW Airbag Harness p/n 1K0 971 584 C or the one that come with steering wheel assuming is genuine mfsw one
MFSW Control Module p/n 1K0 953 549 CH
Collector slip ring 1K0 959 653 C

CAN-BUS 7N0907530AF - this unit cannot be installed before options copied on ross, options must be read before installing this

Collector slip ring 1K0 959 653 C - its serious important not to let it out of place ( use tape, or buy new locked )

The bad part of this is the problems, But if you read the car options before remove the the canbus unit and recode it back to how it was after swap and don't let the slip ring spin out of place you should be fine, if you mess the slip ring the steering wheel light on dash is going to be there airbag lights will keep coming back and more problems related to canbus like windows not going up auto with one click steering wheel angle sensor out of sinc
See it on golf forums.
It should work, Find someone with vag com before you start .

DO NOT SWAP THESE PARTS AND START THE CAR OR YOU WILL BE DONE FOR .
ITS NOT HARD TO DO JUST DONT BE DUMB ITS A EASY 2H JOB, JUST READ THE CAR BEFORE YOU SWAPP THESE UNITS AND RECODE IT BACK AFTER BEFORE START THE CAR AND PRAY

The slip ring is just under the steering wheel as soon as you remove the steering wheel and the covers you see it its just clipped there, the mfu unit has one little screw on front and two clips holding it one in back and one in middle, you need to remove the top and bottom cover , two screws on front just after removing the wheel you can see them and one under and they will come out bottom first them top just look at fitting its easy, now the canbus unit I don't know where it will be there is two places it can be deep under the radio or just above the clutch pedal its a lucky dip but you can see it before tacking car apart , remember to READ THE CAR BEFORE DOING THIS OR YOU WILL BE DONE FOR . LMAO

You should go and see golf forums they done this there golf and Leon are basically the same, as I say before I didn't do this I only replaced that mfu in picture as it was not displaying on dash, I don't know that canbus, some succeed some didn't on golf, If you take that canbus out you are done for, I don't know what part you have fitted on car don't understand about electrics, but people have reported having problems with that canbus refusing to accept coding and car is done only seat garage £800 their way.

FIND A VAG COM SPECIALIST, TELL HIM WHAT YOU WANT, HE WILL READ YOUR CAR AND IF HE SAY CANT DO IT OR WILL HAVE PROBLEMS GIVE UP, IF OK TO RECODE GO ON REPLACING THEM PARTS

Friendly advise : if have zero clue about airbag disconnection and don't know what you are doing I suggest you leave the car as it is before causing major damage,
I was told that canbus needs some acknowledge or someone who done it before also that slip ring need cannot be loose or spin out of place.
as the SILENT2010 say that canbus needs professional, apparently it cannot be removed without vag specialist
