That comment will wind a lot of people up, I think, and just Warren (OP). Did you actually read the first post? Did you figure out that he is seriously out of pocket with MTM?

It's not uncommon for the person who's car is first up for remapping to get a hefty discount, or a free map. Hell, I'd want some kind of discount if they had my car for a week of "ragging around" to make sure the code was right, to then go on to sell to other people. The week of testing I've heard from other customers, not Warren.

This is significantly different to other tuners that have, alledgedly, used the tatic you mention.

Get your facts straight.

Your exactly right in my case they had the map ready, as you say just needed to check it out (thrash it lol) for a week, but they have it back every now and then when they require, cause as mentioned before they constantly look to improve the map, I have suggested a proper review of the map, but would prefer someone else besides myself to give an unbiased opinion.

Obviously my facts are straight then

My point behind that statement was of course that you are gonna plug something if you get it for nothing ;)

Absolute rubbish.

The OP wrote a review of a product that he thought was good, particularly in comparison to another "best of the best" product.

You said he plugged it because he got it for free.

I have to wonder, if you're going to assume that everyone that posts any kind of positive product review is being financially rewarded why on earth you bother reading any of them.

we dont post on here to offend people ,just share info that would hopefully allow others to make there own calculated choices!!!!!!!

feel its unfair others have to be so judgemental, and start having a pop at others.

I think "people" should think twice about posting then, particularly when they don't post any information, just speculation and factually incorrect information.

I do find it incredible that you comment about me being "so judgemental" when I was reacting to a post that was not only factually incorrect but also attacked someone personal integrity and honesty, not to mention the company in question.

Like they say, a thief always assumes everyone steals ;)

Agreed :) - And to be honest this review of Revo has certainly once again opened my peepers as to the other option I feel I have.

In addition to the Revo review, it is obvious that the original poster has good grounds for comparing the old map with the new Revo map.

That's a good thing then, the info's always out there. It's just a shame how you got there.

Personally, I've found Revo to povide excellent customer service and a top product. It was perfectly smooth and driveable yet nicely agressive, and made good power and torque. I haven't run any other map on a VAG motor, though.

My Toledo 1.8T AUQ made over 240bhp with a Turbo Back exhaust, TIP and panel filter, but it had a "late" remap based on a lot of previous knowledge. From what I have seen 220bhp or 230bhp at the most was available from that engine from other tuners up to the point where Custom Code and Star upped it to the 240's.

I bet that 10-20bhp made all the difference in the world on the road.................Dyno lottery anyone

Which is why Revo only claim 300 on there website, mine may or may not be a true 316 but that is down to tweaking it with the Revo select plus, and of course the dyno lottery. :D

I have to agree with Feel on this. I don't socialise with coxw, however I have met him several times at SCN meets over the years and obviously I have read and responded to his postings for a long time on SCN.

Warren is one of the most sincere blokes you can find on SCN, and when he post his findings they are not biased. Rather they are usually very accurate observations and well balanced reports. They are only ever as a means to discuss his findings of a product and share them with everyone on here. What's right for one person isn't right for another.

Accusations that because someone receives a free map it automatically makes them bias, is a judgmental accusation in itself.

We have always replied with the same statement regarding chip tuning, since SCN began in 2001. (This is not something new to some people here, we've been round this block more than once before and were not inexperienced)

Make a considered choice, speak to people who have the products and decide for yourself what suits you the best. Factor in cost, distance to travel, customer service feedback.

Don't listen to off the cuff statements, as they are usually untrue or unfactual and are the result of spread rumours from someone not technically experienced.

Be smart and do the research yourself.

We could settle this argument easily and others, all we need is standard LCR a mapped one, standard MK2 Cupra and a selection of mapped ones then race them at Santa pod then zip up to Crail. But I warn you unless it's yellow you WILL never beat me. yellow cars are faster that IS proven.:p

Agreed Warren is 100% (BTW met him before he got his S3) genuine, believe me if the revo wasn't up to scratch he'd have it mapped again, regardless of cost.

im not interested in the technical side of things, this & that im saying just based on pure driveability & thrill.
i understand things a clicky on the forum ,but all should be allowed,to respond to attacks and defend ther postings.

just ive been reading the american forums quite a bit and quite a few of them are having fuel cut problems when hitting stage 2 of tuning

That's a better response than telling someone to boil their head. So it can remain, that is the one and only reason your post got deleted.

The forum isn't clique it's far from it. Some sites won't entertain discussion about any other product. We do! Yet we want views to be balanced and factual.

This is a discussion not a gladiator match.

** If you want discuss it further, you can email or PM me, leave this thread for the subject matter **

Fact - Nobody with more sense than money is going to spend £1000 on a remap and then a month later, another chunk of money on another map because the original was "lacking" something.

So you assume, we all know what that means...ass-u-me. Maybe he does have more money than sense - hey he bought an S3 ;)

Anyway back on the stage 2 fuel issue - I do beleive it is a problem but no everyone has had the problem, this simply could be down to settings though.

I am sure Revo (other tuners are available!) will post news once they have some, I was mearly letting people know there is something out there to tackle this issue.

Having driven Warren's car in MTM, Test revo Code & full revo code, I can give an unbiased POV

it's properly fast & smooth at it's latest state (Revo)

Back from the dead
Hello.

I've just got back from a weekend of testing product. I was at Revo on Friday because my local stealer had overwritten my code with a reflash of version 40 Audi software update (even though the current version is 50 - nice touch guys).

I want to be absolutely square here. I went out and spent a grand on some code with MTM as my local Audi dealer said they would honour the warranty with this code on the car as MTM work extensively with Audi in Germany.

On a car that had covered just 198 miles when it was mapped I had to consider that the engine needed to bed in, and the ECU adapt. I was under no illusions that I would be getting healthy figures at that point. By 1000 miles very little had actually changed. There was only marginal difference in the performance over stock. I bought the MTM product in good faith, and although it was OK, it was unexceptional. Probably massively reliable, but having owned the Stg 2 LCR previously I needed something better than unexceptional. You can't try before you buy with some tuners. It's blind faith. I used RS246 Audi forum to get some supporting information specific to Audi's before deciding to switch my map, and I was surprised to see that quite a few S/RS4/6 owners were sharing the opinion that MTM in some cases were allowing their product to ride on the strength of the name.

When it comes to my car money is not an issue, and only quality will do. I knew I wanted to change the map and I thought long and hard about it. I knew that if I wanted a very specific product Revo could deliver, as their maps are controllable to a point, and they are very proactive about handling customer feedback. When I first got my Stg2 LCR map, I asked them to stretch the map across the whole pedal as I didn't want a sudden boost surge (which got spun out through the front wheels). And guess what. They did it. And when they refined the product they called me to get me back for a refresh. It's that kind of service that made the difference.

It's been more of the same with this car. I'm on the 3rd revision of map, and the latest one in 'race mode' (as I call it - boost 9, timing 9) is astonishing. The test mules for this map have been Milltek's own S3, a Mk2 Cupra and an Edition 30 Golf (for your reference). I'm not going to quote any figures as they are misleading and difficult to reference for the Haldex drivetrain.

At Bruntingthorpe this weekend the figures spoke for themselves, and some footage should hopefully become available shortly to support these claims.

Cars mean the world to me, and I am in a very fortunate position where I can afford some of what I enjoy, and pass on my experiences to others who may have to plan their spend a little more carefully. The reason I continue to post here is firstly because my car is effectively a Leon with an Audi badge, and I feel a greater affiliation to SEAT than to Audi - it's not to smarm or gloat, its just I wanted Haldex. Secondly is because I feel that on balance there is some really decent information on here, so I want to contribute the same. I've been modding for 16 years (all VAG group), so I don't get giddy with excitement before I write this stuff.

I want to clarify that I would never miss-state my opinions on this site out of respect to the members, and have always been balanced in my views.

In the meantime here's a picture of me enjoying a track session at Castle Combe this weekend to test out the Revo race setting!! (Apologies I've gone off thread). In my defense I'm waiting to buy the new uprated fuel pump in about 3 weeks so I will report back shortly.

Cheers all ;)

Fair play mate :)

Edit: Have Revo had any issues that the Yanks have had with excess fuel washing oil off important areas within the engine and causing premature engine wear? It is one thing that was brought up on another forum.

To the best of my knowledge they haven't. I was monitoring the engine quite closely on the track day and the car threw out no DTC's and when some cars were showing oil temps of 160 degrees I was only seeing 112. I didn't feel any adverse behaviours from the car, but then it was not under heavy load as the track was flat and I wasn't accelerating up big hills in high gears (which accentuates the issue).

Obviously don't take this as gospel because I don't have x-ray eyes, but Revo have supposedly worked very hard to get this map right.

As m0rk maintains above (independent witness), it is a very good map. I demo'd the car to a guy with a std Mk2 S3 at Audi Driver International and he will be buying Revo instead of his previous choice of maps. To be fair there isn't really a bad product out there from the ESTABLISHED brands (APR/Revo/MTM/Jabba/AmD/CC etc..). It's personal preference. I do not however condone going down to a garage who can slap some code on your car for 200 nicker. Its just not worth the risk when youre paying big money for a car. However that said, they all have to start somewhere.

One of my mates has on 04 M3 CSL and it has just popped a piston at 30k miles. Sometimes these things will happen with high performance cars. I don't ever really own cars long enough to see whether they suffer too much (much to the despair of my better half and my bank manager)

With the summer we've just had I reckon I'd come pretty close to your yellow beast. With the Haldex its hard to know if its a better car or a boat as its as good on water as it is on tarmac!!

One of the S4's blew its engine at Castle Combe and I hit its oil right in the apex of a corner. Slight brown trouser moment but all came back under control pretty quick (and I'm no expert).

Got 5.4s 0-60mph and 14.3s standing quarter at GTi this year and the boot was absolutely rammed with $hit on a slightly damp track. Is yours about the same?

Do you happen to know with the Revo code about wiping off max levels stored by the ECU and increases in the flash counter then mate?

Unfortunately not. It may be worth speaking to Revo directly. Although I am a modaholic I'm not desperately technical. Apologies.

I spent a fortune of a full Milltek for my Stg2 LCR, and whilst it was a nice piece of pipework I wish I'd listened to Steve (Ruddmeister), and spent the money on some suspension instead. Milltek pipes are about as good as it gets, however unless you do the downpipe too you don't get the gains you'd expect. I would consider changing the backbox for a bit more tune, but I think the money can be spent better elsewhere.

As for the intercooler, it was essential on the Stg2 mapped LCR, however the new front mount on the S3/Cupra isn't all bad. Other than in the heat of summer inlet temps don't get that bad. Of course lower is always better, but its quite evasive and expensive surgery for a new car.

If you plan on doing any track mileage definitely consider sorting the brakes. The pads are OK for 5 or so 2 mile laps if you're careful, but Milltek have fitted RS4 calipers to their S3.

The fuel pump Revo are importing is reported to be around $300 (£150 + fitting). This will enable them to map the car more aggressively, but they are recommending a full exhaust and DP for the full on experience. This will constitute a stage 2 pack, and should maximise the package dynamically without overstretching the OE set up too badly. That is some major $$$$'s and my wifes just spent that on next years holiday which is less than pleasing.

I want the uprated Haldex controller next. See what Xmas brings.
