I currently have a 2008 leon fr and looking to upgrade the stereo to a vw rns510 unit but heard stories regarding the battery drain issue will I experience this or will I get away with it being a 2008 model as I've heard it only affects earlier models

Apparently its to do with the unit still running in the background even when the device is switched off hence why it drains the battery.

The canbus gateway needs updating in order for it to work without draining your battery but honestly mate if I was you I would just fit an aftermarket unit instead. You can get an aftermarket unit for a similar price maybe even cheaper and get the same benefit.
