My car is an octy vrs and wasn't under warranty so i replaced it myself with a used ko3s which lasted about 6 weeks:-o i then removed that turbo and took it to a turbo specialist and on inspection of the old turbo the guy said it appeared to be oil starvation that had caused it to fail and was advised to replace the oil feed pipes too so i replaced that turbo with a brand new one as well as the oil feed pipes and its been ok since:clap:
hopefully yours won't be anything as serious as mine and that if it is that your warranty will cover it for you

If your car is standard mate i wouldn't expect it to pull quickly past 130. Sounds around right to me!

no honestly mate my car pulled nice and smoth and quite all the way up to 140 no noise no nothing, want to get it sorted but my dealer are an ignorant bunch and took five days to do a bloody water pump cos they had the wrong bolts!!

I still have this noise and it seems to be getting worse! Also it only does it when the engine is hot! So i was thinking could it be the gasket leaking between the manifold and turbo or manifold and cylinder head? As it happens around where peak power is, therefore max gas flow, increasing back pressure at the turbine! So could this be my problem maybe! As i said there seems to be no performance decrease so maybe this small amount of exhaust gases escaping through the gasket could be making this noise??

turbo is over spinning

Hi Chaps,
This noise is the turbo over spinning and eating the bearing. These turbos only use the old style technology bronze bearing which will be eaten if the turbo goes out of balance due to over revving. I killed a KO3 sport in the same way, i think your turbo's are the same or KO4. Take the inlet hose off the turbo and see how much play is in the shaft of the turbo. You will have a tiny bit of play due to no oil pressure which these bearing rely on. Anymore than 1-1.5mm and the bearing has had it, also check the inlet "snail" for marking from the impeller blades.
Good luck
J

This is now happening to me, ive found a fair amount of oil in the vertical pipe exiting the turbo (the silenced bit) I suppose i should have checked for play on the inlet side too as i had it up on jacks this morning.

The culpret of my problem was a blocked CAT causing back pressure and was gases blowing through a slighlty loose downpipe! I fitted a CAT bypass pipe and tightened the DP and it's gone and went like stink then :D! But then two weeks after that the turbo blew up! :(
