So if I was going higher would my limitations be at the turbo or the engine? Are they strong enough at stock or need to be bored/forged etc

Long story short if you go higher than 300hp 300tq you need forged rods and arp head studs.

Go higher than 400hp you need stronger exhaust valves

Go higher than 550hp you need forged pistons.

If you're going big turbo etc youll need fuel pump and injectors new clutch and tuning etc. But im just giving you the weaknesses of the 1.8t platform. Engine doesnt need to be bored out. Stock rods are weak, stock exhaust valves break above 400hp and the pistons are stock mahle forged and good for 550hp

Cheap and 300+ bhp don't go together.
As leon 20vt says, you're looking at thousands to mod an APP to that level.

300 is doable by going to a full K04-023 swap from an s3 or cupra R. Then stage 2 upgrades and a tune. Prob get it done for 1200-1500 quid.

What's yours running at bud?
Im only stage 1 tune at the moment 225hp and 220tq (300nm)

Im actually swapping over to a k03s hybrid turbo in 2 weeks. Just waiting for it to arrive. Turbo dynamics MD445 and high flow mani then ill be tuned to 300hp and 300lbft (400-410nm)

Stage 1 225hp sounds a bit high? Usually 215 tops
Guess it depends on the company, here in Germany stage 1 is usually 225. And stage2+ comes to 265hp often. I know in UK its usually 240-255 ...

Maybe the Germans understand the ECU a bit better being in german i dont know.

Remap it and be happy with it.

why throw good money after bad, its most likely nearly a 20 year old car now.

if you want a fast car i would save your money and buy a fast car out of the box

But joking aside the 1.8t platform for the money is a great tuning platform.

Its amazing how cheap the used market is in UK.

If you can do one of 2 things mate.

Sell your Cupra 180 and buy a Cupra R.

Or swap over the turbo kit from a Cupra R/S3/TT225 which is also amazingly cheap in the UK. A used swap kit will cost you about 300-500 then just a remap for 150 or whatever and you're at 260hp and 380nm

Thats such a great bang for the buck upgrade. You're talking 80 more hp and 105ft lbs of torque (145nm) for what 600 quid?!?!

Plus you have more headroom all the way till 300hp and 300tq down the line with a few mods.
