The app has become available in the Android Google play store.

Don't know about IOS

Any UK volunteers fancy testing?

Requires Nav high spec'd infotainment system, as the service relies on the Android mobile device connecting to the car's hotspot created through it's integrated WLAN.

*Edit* the supporting article linked in the other thread suggests it only works on MY19 at moment so may not be available yet after all

What's the benefit of it? I don't see why you'd use this when you can already use Google assistant on Android play

The real benefit in my optinion is the one which technologically WLAN could offer. I think SEAT is collecting lot of experience with alexa and I see as a possibilty that in a future update they enable the Android Auto wireless, which was already relased by Google early this year.

Also Seat is pioneer with this kind of technologies so I dont see why not.

That would be the real benefit for me, no cables in Android Auto / Apple Carplay.

Obviously, everything depends on SEAT if they decide to enable it in a future update, but at least the navi mets the -theoretical- requirements by having WLAN.

I am waiting for a seat leon st fr (which should delivered as a MY19) and I picked the normal navi. Therefore would be awesome if (based on the rumours) it will be shipped with WLAN (at the moment only available in the high version).

It's just an alternative to the Google voice assistant .

I.e Google Home vs Alexa dot

May be worth a try for free and an added bonus for those already bought into Amazon Alexa in the home.

I personally haven't used it before, but I work with a few people that use Alexa in the house and swear by it.

I must admit that the Google assistant will take some beating though.

Yeah in the small print from SEATs website it goes on to state when it will be available.

Apparently June 2017 Nav high builds should be compatible and all Leon/Atecas built after 2018
With "Navi plus +WLAN option" see attached.

From the MY19 easy options the Navigation High system was removed as a selectable option.
So if this is to be believed it could be promising...
But again nothing confirmed as yet.

Wonder if it would allow u to turn your heating/lights on if u had hive or similar. Now that would be 'smart'.

If it's standard Alexa and you have the "skills" on your account I believe this would be possible. It's cloud driven.

Don't quote me though as I've never used the service.

I havent and dont have Alexa or Google Home as i dont really have a need for it.

Actually the Google Home thing, which from what i can understand is basically Google Assistant which is who u speak to on AA has the capability of controlling Smart Home devices.

Vaguely remember the gadget show doing a test of them both and they were pretty much equal then.

Surprised that they havent set up Alexa to work via USB as some mobile networks will not allow u to setup a mobile hotspot

Here you can find more info about Alexa and its integration in the Seat official press site:
http://www.seatpress.co.uk/en-gb/releases/770

...
Services are now available in the UK on model year 19 Leon and Ateca models equipped with navigation, via the Android SEAT Media Control with Amazon Alexa app. Simply download SEAT Media Control with Amazon Alexa from the Android PlayStore, connect it to the vehicle and the voice service is ready to use.
...

"Launched in 2014, Amazon Alexa now has more than 45,000 skills thanks to the Alexa Skills Kit (ASK), which encourages developers to continually expand and evolve the Alexa’s capabilities."
...

I know that Amazon offers a kit to developers, so then you can extend its functionality to your system (in this case the car). So I guess SEAT will develop some car-specific actions but always taking safety in count. And with safety, I mean things like this:

Although, we've not had any confirmation from members on the forum or videos on YouTube of Alexa working today.

Evidence is mounting that SEAT are rolling out WLAN.
Another article confirming the role out.

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/100919/seat-deploys-amazon-alexa-in-new-leon-and-ateca-models

What we know

1) App is available
2) The app requires the car to have WLAN
3) WLAN was previously only included with Nav high package
4) Nav high package has been removed as a selectable option

If SEAT are rolling this out like the article (s) are suggesting it will be to units with the standard NAV.
This was originally hinted at the beginning of the year.

- install an apps to extract APK from the phone (I used this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... com.ext.ui)
- share the extracted APK with me/us.

Thanks in advance
