Seat recognition of misfiring problem!

Many of you may have seen my previous thread "solution to misfiring". Was down at my dealership today and spoke to the head technician there.

He said seat know of the misfiring problem. And its been traced to a SOFTWARE issue as did revo
He further went on to say specifically what is wrong with the software.

Its the changeover between the supercharger and the turbocharger. The software that is written to deal with this was not good enough and made the engine run lean, which made temps rise beyond what was thought possible at that revv range so there was no parameters for this, which lead to overfuling, causing misfires. The new software out now has this problem solved

The new plugs seat recommend are cooler and will keep temps down more during this changeover. Electrode should be out of the way of any combustion due to it being shorter too preventing it from spoiling.

MAIN POINT. All these engines that show major oil consumption and/or misfiring which have already had the old injectors changed will have a new engine! Apparently even though seat uk wont admit to it, they have been "handing out" new engines left right and centre.
The tech also said that seat wont replace piston rings with the uprated ones, they will replace the enigne instead!

Finally the vag group have admited theres a fault here and are doing something about it.

Think the reason its taken such a long time to get to this solution is because originally it was down to dodgy injectors so people like me who kept going back got more injectors replaced.

So with the oil issues did he mention how much allowance there is with consumption? The rest of it sounds like good news though mate!!

When was the software made available nationwide? If its really new I might have to take a trip to Seat in the week and get it done :)

Good info though man.

software was out around august i think, thats when the new 1.4tsi engines had the uprated piston rings from factory and about the time that seat started recommending new plugs

That sounds like good news for all the 1.4TSI owners out there! Wonder how long it'll take others to start getting the same info from their dealers?

Sorry to go OT here Lucifer666...but would your local dealer be the one on hadfield road? What have your experiences with them been like generally? Personally for me its been a mixed bag, as it also has for others I know who have used them.

Wondering what they've been like for you considering you've had pretty persistent major problems? (mine runs on the black stuff so my problems aren't/weren't related to this directly)

thats the one mate! Generally, they have been pretty good. I mean they did everything they could until seat informed them on the cause/solution to these 1.4tsi problems.

The tech in charge there seems like a decent bloke, dealt with my car since day 1 and seems up to date on developments. Informed me then that there were dodgy injectors about 18months ago so they were changed along with the plugs and coil packs, they even performed compression tests back then and checked internals but seat warrenty told them to put it back together and send me on my way.
Then it was another set of plugs and coil packs aswell as a damaged oxygen sensor in exhaust due to the misfiring.

They have always been informative and helpful, did help that i created a good relationship with the woman in charge of warrenty in that dealership. Seen her out on a sat night a few times since she lives near me and shes screwed the nut for me a fair few times regarding courtesy cars etc.(which is the one critisism I have with that garage-never any courtesy cars)

There was one customer service woman there who is gone now who would just talk total bullshit to customers and didnt have a clue what she was on about.

If you ever go there, speak to cath who works as part of the service dept in charge of warrenty, say ur a mate of mark(aka me) and u should get a good experience.
Btw that garage alone over the last month has changed two 1.4tsi engines. Infuriates me because I was the first person to have gone there 18months ago with this problem and people that havnt had the car that long have new engines.

Should be getting one over the next couple of weeks, depends if any piston damage has occured i think.

The only way of stopping them all together is the new plugs , piston rings and update. Those with problems still should get new engines and seat wont give new piston rings. Just new engine

Ill get a copy of all the technical docs should this result in a new engine. Ill also give out my seat uk case number as a reference should anyone on here go that route. Dont want to ask them for offficial statements at this stage until I get this sorted. Should be a couple of weeks. Then I'll put everything I can up on here. This is a massive issue for seat now. If every engine that hasn't got these new piston rings starts misfiring, they are gunna have to fork out for new engine blocks which will work out to be millions

Case numbers would be brilliant as my dealership aren't been to good about it at all! Making me feel like I'm bull sh*tting!

Sounds like good news for fr/cupra owners :)

Didn't realise you were In Leeds sorry mate, menston seat.

ive used wakefield jct and they were, erm... Not very good.

took them almost 2hrs to upload a ECU update while i was there waiting, and my service light magically appeared after visiting them, but still had another 1200miles before it actually needed one.

How do you know if your car has any updates at all? Just take it to the dealer?

Mine is a Jan 11 60 plate FR TSI.
