This is what I'm thinking..... R32 has 4wd & 240bhp, Cupra has 240bhp, and is faster..... wtf is that about.

maybe the turbo helps, longer gearing etc so less changes.

or maybe it's got 4wd

It is a tickler. :)

Weight could be an issue with the R32? Transmission losses?

Probably is due to the weight and tranny losses as others have mentioned. R32 is at least 200kg's heavier IIRC

If the chassis is as good as they say on the Cupra then getting 240bhp down via the front wheels probably isn't that difficult especially if its a smoother engine than the 1.8T rather than having a load of torque come in suddenly causing you to lose traction.

Is there a chance it has an LSD or ATB diff? Maybe they worked some wonder with the traction control program :)

These are straight line figures were talking about though, still might not be as good around corners

I think with it's independant rear suspension, it'll hand std LCR's their asses on corners.
how old is the mk4 platform?no different to mk1/2 golf in design,so it bloody should.
4wd,would be nice, but not on the 2007 cupra chamionship cars(i presume since they run the series they could use whatever drivetrain they wanted),so will have to be an option/scandinavia only (LHD).can yuo honestly see a 240 bhp 4wd leon next week?
it would be nice ,but computer say no:(

edit:they could be back in WRC mind :D

Hmm, OK. 19" LP640-style wheels, lowered, spacers, arches widened at the back a bit and the exhaust moved back to where it should be :

You can't quite see it but I've also added 4wd with a Torsen centre diff. The exhaust routing is... interesting. :)
