Partially removing the tray sounds dodgy. I've read on here of leaking inlet pipework so might be worth just investigating that first. Some oil in the inlet pipework isnt a problem as the CCV feeds back into the inlet, as does the exhaust recirc system so can get a horrible oily/sooty gunk build up.

hey all,
I will try MAFS, turbo sensor and fuse as I have had this problem for a while.

Another thing that does keep happenning is that when I have my side lights on and its a rainy day the coil light starts flashing !
Only problem here is that sometimes the coil light flashes and my brake lights stay on !
I've had a new brake switch and the wiring checked over by VW mechanic !
Any ideas ?

UPDATE
I've changed the MAFS to one from GSF which cost £28 +vat and air filter. Took it for a drive down Coventry road and no turbo shutdown after 3.5k !
I did initially get a jump whilst I changed down gears but I'm thinking it might be ECU sorting out figures from last MAFS ?
The jump disappeared after 5 mins of driving but knowing my luck something is bound to pop up when I least expect it.

I had the same problem with the turbo going into Limp mode @ about 4k in gear (usually in the middle of overtaking!!!). Changed the n75 pressure valve (helped for a while) , cleaned MAF, cleaned the charge pressure sensor, lubricated the actuator (also helped for a while) but after 2 weeks... still didn't work.

Ended up needing to change the turbo because it was the actuator which was faulty. Cost me £200 for the second hand turbo, lots of labour getting to it, but to change it it was quite simple.

Did you get the turbo to work after? Thanks

Well, I've still got this problem with limp mode after 3.5k but it's not as frequent.

With regards to my previous post, the MAF sensor that I bought from GSF seemed to cause more problems. So I took it back and made them swap it for the Bosch MAF.

The car is now running better but still can't get to the bottom of this limp mode problem.
So I bought a VAGCOM lead and here is what it showed me:

Any ideas?
