errr that one doesn't jump out of my memory Aceman :).

Is that Spanner related to mileage or / and date of last service, since I reckon that I get it on a date basis, that's a theory least, obviously if I'd done the mileage I'd get it at that.

Tell, i'm sure in my instance it's mileage, i can't remember seeing it in the manual either.

I bet Klawit 'll know !! [B)]

He'll know, but if we say his name too often the Seat tooth fairey won't appear.

I suspect that it's programmed via the OBC [? or whatever it's called] socket under the steering wheel to tell the cars computer system when next to display it. I suspect that there is no easy combination of button presses that put it off.

This is a BMW one so they are going to be similar

and so it goes on.... cheaper to ask the garage to do it for you in this instance :).

Tell - on a Polo i had, to do a reset you could press/hold the mileage trip and clock buttons in a certain combo, i was hoping it would be similar on the Altea, although there's no clock button as such.

Thanks for your help

Could always try one of the various combinations suggested if you search all posts for 'service reset' such as this one.

http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=105675&highlight=service+reset

Worth a try before shelling out any cash.

Slight deviation from the topic. Anyone notice that there service countdown is a bit less than 10,000 miles. It seems like the dashboard thinks I should be servicing every 9,500 miles not 10,000. I'm at 17500 is and I get 1500 flashing for a sec when I switch on not 2500. Vaguely remember that the countdown was short for the first service too (if that was 500 short it fits with my 9500 theory).

I will have a look in the manual tonight if I get chance but I am sure I have read it somewhere.

Regarding the mileage discrepancy I believe the ECU counts in kilometers for the service indicator and I think 15,000km is the european interval, again I think Klawit would be able to confirm this.

Sorry I don't know how to do it and I reckon it's one of those trade secrets that they don't want you to know so would be very surprised if it is in the manual.

If it is any help, when i bought my Altea, JCT600 "said" they had done a service but when I got it home I noticed the spanner was coming on. I took it back and the technician came out to the car and fiddled under the steering column and controls and had it done in about 5 seconds, no special tools used just his hands.

Yes I know I should have asked him what he did !! so one has to assume it is a combination sort of thing.

Cheers

ah ha.... mind you I suspect it might use calanders days as well to count down using both distance and time from last service, so it has a day clock ticker in there so you get warned for annual service as well. Mine decides to start to tell me in December about a month before. See what Klawit has to say....

Interesting regarding fiddling under the steering column, someone will advise soon no doubt.

OK looked in the manual and it doesn't say how to reset the service interval timer, my memory must be harking back to the Ibiza as I definatly know you can do it on the Ibiza's through a combination of pressing buttons whilst turning ignition on.

Sorry guys my mistake, now wheres Klawit when you need him !!

Did I hear a faint call somewhere ???? ;)

posted something about this in the neighbour's board couple of weeks ago

Question was like "clock & spanner? how to reset the indicator?"
klawit said:
correct, you get both symbols:
... first, turn on ignition and the spanner will be shown for approx. 5 sec., telling you the remaining distance, until the next service
... followed by the clock, which reminds you, that it will be some xx days until the year is gone when last service was made.

These values have no superficial reasonable connection, as service interval is either one year or (in germany) every 15000km whatever comes first ... so if your service is due within the next couple of days/weeks, the time is relevant for the display and the distance is just measured incidently.

If you have a look at these two pics, you'll find the same silly constellation:
=> http://www.seat-forum.de/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1560&d=1130428693
=> http://www.seat-forum.de/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1561&d=1130428693

13900 km left but only 7 more days ... because the car only ran some 1100 km in almost one year, as it was a demonstration car from my dealer, where 1/5 (=212 km) of the total distance was on my account.

cheers ... Klaus

PS: if your last question is answered as well, fine ... because manipulating the interval can affect your guarantee ... and just setting the display off via OBD (without "servicing") seems to be impossible so far ... even for the guru(s) in our forum.
... that was then ... before someone posted, that mainly older 5P models (depending on the ECU?) probably can be resetted via a method, aceman remembered almost perfectly ...

It's without guarantee ... and I haven't seen anyone confirming the procedure, but the one who posted was known as pretty reliable, so whoever wants to give it a try, here you go:

- press the mileage reset button and hold it while turning ignition on
- then turn left/right (for days remaining/spammer) and hold the button for ~ 2 seconds until reset to 0 is indicated
- turn ignition off
next time igniting the service indicator should be gone.

And no, Phil ... beeing a little cowardly when it comes to testing undocumented features while under warranty, I wasn't fiercely playing with the knobs ... ;)

Hope the info still is valuable.

greets ... Klaus

Yep! That works for me. My service indicator had come on at just over 28000 miles and there was no way that car was going in until 30k. The binging noise of the spanner symbol lighting up was beginning to bug me .
Not any more. Well done Klawit!

Hello Nigel,

so you're going to be the first one documented in the german forum for trying out and proving the fact, that it works.

Hope there are no long term side effects with this procedure ... ;) ... just kidding.
