Hi,

Will be taking delivery of my first Seat in April and wanted know about servicing specifically on contract hire.

I understand servicing is required however according to the leasing options rep ''as long as it's a vat registered garage and uses Seat parts then its classed as a valid service'.

Was considering the official seat service plan however considering the cost savings between the two what have people done or recommed?

Could I just buy official parts for the 1 minor and major service at the local garage?

get a local VW specialist to get parts from TPS (liek they will anyway) and do the service.

The main reason for stipulating that Seat parts are used is so that the warranty is still valid.

If you use a specialist then the price won't be much different, in my experience, but if you use you local garage then make sure they provide you a copy of the parts delivery note with your VAT invoice. Keep all this until the lease end, so if a warranty claim is required you can prove each service was compliant.

Given that the car only needs servicing two or maybe three times during the lease I'm not sure it's worth the extra hassle to save such a small sum.

I'd read your lease agreement before deciding what you do. Like @zedlor mentioned VWFS customers are contracted to have servicing done at a seat dealer. Other lease companies may state similar.

It depends who the lease is with. Mine is with VWFS who say it must be serviced at a SEAT dealer and will not allow an independent to do it. Their car so their rules. It’s completely different to you owning the car and you could bring it to any VAT registered garage.

Not sure who's told you that by mine and the gf's SEAT's are both with VWFS (Contract Hire) and we have been advised that a service is fine at an independent garage as long as they use genuine parts and are VAT registered.

Are you on contract hire? If so it's in the contract, it's one of the terms and conditions. If someone has told you that then I'd get them to read the contract and confirm it. Could end up costing you if someone has gave you duff information.

My dealer told me the same thing, as did SEAT when I called. My contract says different however. I think you might be in for a fright!

Got my Cupra from VWFS on PCH and it does say in the contract that it must be serviced at the SEAT dealer only. To be honest price difference between SEAT delaer and good independant not much now days.

Mine on the lease contract said Seat Dealer only, despite the person (who was my contact doing my lease through) saying it doesn't have to be a Seat Dealership as long as they are VAT registered and used OEM parts. I went to a dealer to carry it out anyway...Just under £200 ain't too bad...Volvo's service is just under £300 for it.
