A quick pic in the snow with all four Passat Alloys on
so first day of the Half term Holidays and rather than leave it until later in the week I decided to crack on with some of the work for the Sharan
Job One - Reverse Sensors
Clear mask on and Marked out
Fitted - Just need wiring
Job Two - Continental mirror glass (built in overtaking mirror) to replace cheap ebay glass used to replace broken glass(you get what you pay)
Pics to follow.
so pics of the mirror swap
here you can see the difference in thickness on the left the new glass on the right the cheap ebay one
the thick glass caused everything to seem larger and closer than they where.
this one shows the difference in magnification just
I decided to remove the frame from the old glass to fit to the new glass - rather than stick the new glass onto the old glass
this resulted in
after slipping with the blade - oops
Bandaged up by Shell (Thank you) and carrying on.
also remembered job three - glue the insert back into jack sorage cover from boot
Can anyone confirm if the Reverse lights should go off when the tailgate is raised?
Our Sharan Reverse Lights go off when the tailgate is lifted.
Trying to find out if we may have a wiring issue in the tailgate.
EDIT : solved and found the answer to my question
no the lights should not go off when the tailgate is lifted - removed the offside cable cover to find
not good - all the wire seem to brittle and the shielding has split on most of them I have soldered the reverse wire back together and insulated all the others for not going to see if there is a loom available for this.
next on the list of work to do is the rear space heater
should work like this
no heat being generated by this at the moment - exhaust runs cool
Both the Left and Right rear calipers were beginning to stick on so gave the rear calipers an overhaul this afternoon. No Pictures sorry!
OK I have my flame proof clothing on for this one
sat in the garage
Think I will give it a go in the morning on the Sharan.
At least it'll be quick to remove
Well the dirty deed is done - car does respond to throttle quicker and seems to have increased torque - judged by the way the car climbed a local hill today.
Quick Picture for anyone who has not seen one installed
Had a cooling/ heating problem - Car would overheat very quickly if driven hard and blow out coolant from expansion bottle. If not driven hard car would not blow warm air into cab at all.
Today had the Waterpump changed along with Timing belt and Tensioner - glad to say all sorted.
Next on list replace near side drop link and wishbone then trip to Cardiff for De-Cat and stainless front to back.
Also mileage turned over 139,000 this week.
replaced both nearside and offside wishbones, bottom ball joints and drop links with the aim of removing a clunk - guess it was none of these as it is still there
Think they will be the next component to change along with bearings - whilst I am at it I might fit lowering springs.
I replaced the Top mount and bearing on the nearside in May 2011 surprised if they are gone already.
Bored today Painted the grill - anti colour coding - I think it breaks up the silver and looks a little more Alhambra or the more modern Touran
Also added a LED floor light into the boot lid
Just need some night time pics showing the light at work
Front grill looks 100 times better
