[SOLVED] Rear wiper / washer jet removal

Hi all,

Just having a look at the broken rear wiper today. Put the rear wiper on and helped it along with hands whilst spraying some grease around it and it now moves freely again, however I think I have found the cause of it seizing up in the first place.

The rear washer jet pipe is connected fine, but water seems to be p*ssing out from the connection on the motor! There's two small holes that it is coming out. I would guess it's something in the motor that's split and is now leaking?

How does one remove the rear wiper motor so I can try and open it up and have a look? Or get a replacement motor?

I've undone the three nuts on the inside, and undone the nut on the wiper under the little plastic cover... but I can't figure out how to actually remove the blade part???

There is a plastic cowl around the base of the wiper arm. You need to prise this off gently, being careful not to crack the glass and then there is a bolt underneath. Remove the bolt and the wiper arm should come off easily.

Thanks. I have already removed the plastic cover and undone the bolt underneath. Should the arm just pull off at this point then? It may be seized on then possibly. It doesn't seem to want to budge, and I am a bit weary of cracking glass.

Hm. Gave it some liberal dosings of a penetrant spray last night and it still doesn't want to come off.

Should it literally just pull off, or is it screwed on around the thread?

Might be time to get the hammer out if it's just supposed to literally pull right off.

It should just pull away from the motor arm. Have you got a picture just to double check we are talking about the same part?

I will get a picture later on this evening. I think we're talking about the same part though :)

This is as far as I can get. I can't get the arm off of the bolt here.... (won't let me post URL's until 15 posts, so after this post!)

The arm should wiggle a little and then pull off leaving the rubber suround in the glass. The rubber is easily removed after the arm comes off.

It wiggles, but the bolt + washer jet part wiggles with it. Must be seized. I'll just keep spraying it and hitting it with a hammer until it pulls off then! :)

Do you have any pullers? You could try taking the motor out from the inside and hopefully the arm will come off.

Needed a bit of fatherly hammering :) It's off now. Just waiting for the new motor to arrive!

Thanks :)

New (second hand) motor arrived. No more leaks, though the washer jet still seems very weak. The washer jet doesn't rotate around with the wiper any more either, though it does seem to be on the wonk a bit. The jet doesn't shoot straight up the windscreen, but about, say, 10 degree's off to the right.

Doesn't seem to be leaking from anywhere else that I can see, but still doesn't seem right.

Good job mate. I changed mine for the mk6 polo one. Has to be the easiest thing I've done, but yeah, had to really yank that old arm off :s

I soaked it in WD40. while I let it soak up or whatever, I took the old bolt, and sprayed it black. It was so rusty, and with the new arm, you can see it a little.. So it dried, I yanked the old arm off, and done :)
