Sound system

I had the same problem with my drivers door. Took it into my dealer and they took it off me for a day, stripped the door down, refitted the panels with some extra inserts and now there is zero rattling. Ask your dealer ;)

What problem did you have, vibrating with music or just the regular door card vibrating?

I don't have the door card issue that others seem to have, my speaker just sounds like those portable walkman speakers that were overwhelmed by more than 10db of music

To top that off I'm now getting a high pitched vibrating which I'm not sure is the sound actuator coming through the speakers or something from under the central dash speaker cover. I've taken it off and I assume the small board under there is the GPS?

For a one year old car the build quality seems pretty shocking. I don't think I will be seeing more than 2 years ownership at this rate. Defo the worst quality VAG car I've owned.

I'm loathed to book it in at a dealers as they are as much use as a c0ck flavored lollipop.

it won't be the soundaktor coming through the speakers because it doesn't use them. a guy disassembled one and noted that it was a mechanical device which used the firewall/windscreen to amplify it's resonance. yes, the gps does live under that area of the dash :)

Thanks. I wonder if it's the GPS sensor that's vibrating because of the actuator then. I've removed the speaker cover and nothing else has any movement under there. I'll play about with the driver profiles a bit more but so far it's only happening above 2k revs when in sport mode.

The soundaktor is more of a motorised device than a speaker, a bit like the tiny one that makes a mobile phone vibrate...

Well it's something that's causing the sound of an angry bee chewing a wasp.

The simplest way to test if the soundaktor is causing surrounding components to vibrate is to unplug it, it's a simple 5-10 minute job. if the buzzing continues then a) you'll have eliminated it as a source and b) may be able to locate the sound more easily without the added noise of the device being present and potentially confusing the source location.

I don't think it is the soundaktor as it happens when I switch the car into any of the other driver profiles. It done it again yesterday and a few taps of the centre console speaker cover sorted it. I'm going to soundproof the doors and boot so will have a look under the speaker cover too.

I had a Golf mark 6 and found the quality on that was shocking as well. Total waste of money in my opinion.

I'm finding the SSS very disappointing at the minute especially for bassy tracks. Coming from a Mercedes 500w H&K system, the bass is definitely poorer but overall its only rated at 135w so partially expected. The system appears to constantly be changing the volume on some tracks making listening enjoyment impossible :(

I tinkered with the gain on all my iTunes tracks for the Merc, increasing it so might have to bring it back down to standard for the Leon.

I'm also playing all my tunes mostly through the SD Card with the odd bit of streaming so not sure if this is affecting quality. I'd love to play through the IOS interface but can't find a lightning cable long enough to go from the glovebox to my Brodit mount and also fit into the cable connector on the mount.

I'd be surprised if playing through SD vs IOS made any difference either way in sound quality.

Meppershall Beds.
depends on the quality of the recording more than anything else - compression does have an impact.
It helps that my hearing's so bloody awful as well.....I'm not complaining about my playback through SD card; sound just the same as the radio!

Is it possible that the sound system has some kind of a auto-volume function?
I've heard of cars, that increase the volume slightly when the cars' speed is getting faster. So that the volume of the music would increase with the volume of the roadnoise. I know the previous gen CR-V me mum had, had a function like that - that's where I've experienced it. Although it was implemented quite successfully and the volume was changed smoothly, didn't "change constantly" as you're experiencing.

Page 64 of SEAT media user manual. Leon does have speed sensitive volume which can be configured.

Whilst I know it has Speed Sensitive Volume, its not that that I notice. I suspect its the system itself, toning down on certain levels so it doesn't do any damage to itself. Some tracks kick into the bass and for a split second its really bassy and then it auto adjusts and loses the decent bass. Very annoying !!!

Since soundproofing my front doors and the centre speaker cubby the sound system is much better. I can now use the sub without worrying about the dash being shook to pieces. Exactly what I think an 'uprated' system should sound like. Sound is also much fuller.

For little time and money Seat could just add additional insulation during the build process and probably rid themselves of a good percentage of complaints against this particular model. There's absolutely nothing behind the door card, they've basically created a drum!

Looking forward to doing the rear doors and boot. Also toying with the wheel arches but may need to get some help with those.
