What is it supposed to be?

I've seen 0.028" (0.711mm) mentioned by on sparkplugs.co.uk they say the gap should be 1.0mm.

Any ideas?

Plugs are Denso Iridium Ik22's.

Sorry for diggng this up but I'm changing the plugs now. I ordered spark plugs at from GSF at the same time as the coilpack and they said they only did one make and type for the car. They are Bosch Super Plus (with Yttrium) and it says on the box they have a gap of 0.9mm. They have two metal bits on them pointing at the tip :cartman: I'm guessing these just go straight in out of the box - can anyone confirm please? Thanks!

I was curious here and decided to look into it.

Quote from Bosch website....
NEW! Bosch Super plus: Another revolution in Bosch technology

Yttrium - the innovative alloy

The main benefits from using Yttrium in our Super Plus Spark Plugs

It forms an adhesive oxide layer that makes the spark plug extremely effective in minimising wear

It maximises the spark plugs protection against the high temperatures created

Yttrium molecules are positioned between the chrome-nickel molecules, preventing them from melting 'melting together'. The result being that the substance loss from the centre electrode throughout the spark plug's service life is minimal.

As the centre electrode erosion is minimal, the ideal electrode gap is maintained throughout the service life of the Super Plus spark plug. This allows cover of several spark plug types (i.e. with different electrode gaps) by only one Super Plus spark plug, with its factory pre-set electrode gap.

As I thought, they come with a factory pre-set electrode gap these days. You shouldn't be trying to gap them as you could damage the coatings. As long as you've got the right plug for your car, the gap is right.

clearance

spark plugs clearance should be 0.8 mm for standard car. if chipped or remapped you should close the gap an extra 0.010". i didnt know this and the car was runnin ****. thought somethin major was wrong and gonna cost a bomb. anyway i checked and adjusted tham as above and its as sweet as its ever been if not better. dave

Borris, we're talking about the gap on a spark plug. Different cars require different size gaps between the electrode and the prong thing.
Right, I called GSF to get them to recheck on their system.
They said the AYP engine is listed at a gap of 1.0mm but you can have + or - 0.2mm
I'm just going to stick in my 0.9's (which are Bosch Super Plus FR7LDC+) as they are.

Just to add...
I changed them this morning and they looked pretty manky!
What came out were NGK R plugs BKUR6ET-10 with what looked like a 1mm gap on all 3 prongs.
Anyway, a tip for anyone trying to get to cylinder 4 is to just remove the two little black bolts on the bracket holding the charge pipe. Remove that half of the bracket and then the pipe can be pushed to the side.
