Squealing brakes

Hi guys,

I just had new discs and pads all round on my 99 Toledo 1.8se auto, they started squealing within a week or so of them being fitted.

I have had the car back to the place that fitted the brakes last three days in a row each time it came back the car was ok for a few miles but after that the squeal came back (starting of fairly quite then getting louder).

They seem to have tried most things to fix the problem, cleaning out the pads and today replacing the rear pads (which apparently is where the noise is coming from).

It seems to be when your coming to a halt in slow moving traffic. It also seems to be quite bad in reverse too for some reason!

I did a search around on the site and found a couple of other posts that discuss the same problems but none of them related to the Toledo, they all seemed to be relating the Leon or Ibiza (normally the cupra models) - does any one know if I am having the same problem as reported on these other posts?

Not really sure what else I can do, the place that fitted the brakes seems to have done all they can, any suggestions?

not had this on the tolly, but got it on turning left when the beeza is warm......(its an fr model)

i know you said it developed after a week, but mayby they still need time to bed in???? when i have new brakes fitted i go somewhere quite, preferably off road (on tarmac:rolleyes: ) and give them a good testing!!;) some heavy braking.
hope you get it sorted mate, it is irritating!

Hey,

Thanks for the reply, you might be right about the bedding in, though I had to have the front discs and pads changed on my last car and it didn't squeal once.

Maybe I should oil them! its getting to the point that I would rather crash into who ever is in front rather then listen to that bloody noise!

take the pads out and and on the back side (the side that fit's to the caliper) just cover it with copper grease it's a old trick to stop this
