Has anyone seen these before or even tried them? I get the feeling that I shouldn't touch them with a bargepole. I need 4 x tyres for my 17" standard Cupra rims. Thoughts? Flame? :funk:

If they are made in EU then we are meant to be able to trust them nowadays, directional tyres always look a bit "horny" as well. But the bottom line is that I think you already know the answer - avoid, you will probably find that the "rubber" is too hard in winter temperatures - and you will only discover that from the bottom of a ditch! I'm sure someoone will call them "ditch finders". Tut tut, you've bought a spirited warm car and you are about to insult it with cheap tyres - I wouldn't!

Ah, damn, Asia - I didn't read the bumf properly, ah well I don't suppose they are in the EU yet - "summer tyres" - yes might be a bit intolerant of UK wet cold winter weather!

Personally I wouldn't touch them. Camskill are doing Toyo Proxes 4's for £53 a corner, that's wot I run on mine, on my second set on the front, can't fault them in any weather condition. Good value too IMO.

The tread pattern looks exactly like the Nankang NS-2s that I had on my Pug 306. They were a very hard tyre which were good in the dry but not so good in the wet.

As everyone on here says 'You get what you pay for.' I'll never touch budget tyres again after a little mishap a few years back.

How much are they for a full set? I bought my current set of Toyo T1-Rs for £220 last year n paid £30 to have them fitted.

wouldnt touch em personally. i use bf goodrich g-force profiler (hard to find) - pretty in good in the wet, would also consider the vredestein as an alternative.

Yep, I agree. I got Toyo's from Camskill as well. Really good tyre in the wet and dry. I bet there's not much price difference between the Star tyres and Toyo as well.

Is this going to be a better move?

Toyo - Toyo Proxes T1 R Tyre

205/40R17 84W XL Proxes T1-R

Large_Image_20693.jpg

The Proxes T1-R boasts a special performance compound and tread pattern which gives incredible road holding in all conditions, especially in the wet. The V-shaped grooves in the tread pump water away allowing the rubber to grip the road.

These are bounded by circumferential grooves which allow the Proxes T1-R to give you even better wet grip whilst being quieter and longer lasting as well. And, whilst practical, these design elements also makes the tyre look spectacular on any car.
The Proxes T1-R is introduced in a range of the most popular high performance sizes.
It will increasingly cover more sizes from 14" up to 20" and beyond as further sizes are added.
Proxes T1-R will gradually replace the Proxes T1-S to be the ultimate tyre for performance use.

Star Performers are not actually bad at all. Good grip but wear fairly quickly.

I had them on a 130bhp volvo estate ;)

I've got Toyo's on my fronts (16") and I chuck it round wet and muddy country lanes without any sphincter twitching
