Hey everyone

First post here, hard to describe problem with not much technical car knowledge but will say how things are.

Have a 2008 Ibiza sport 1.4 from new, and for years the orange lights (Engine management?) have come in and off through pretty much every journey, took to the garage a load of times and always had it cleared and checked, even had a new lands probe put in once, told that it’s a common thing and not to be concerned.

Whether unrelated or not, something that has happened through the past few years have been random instances where the car cuts out, not in terms off stalling but just cuts out of power meaning I have to pull the car over or handbrake the car and restart the ignition. This doesn’t happen straight away, it’s almost as if you have to wait for the car to regain power before you can start it again, can take a few minutes if not trying it to happen. This is random and until recently had gone a while without it, bug in constant is it tends to happen after going at a high speed, and looking to maybe overtake or change lanes or power up and bank perhaps, it’s hard to describe as it just happens naturally, instantly cuts out then obviously your first thought is to pull over or brake etc. The other day happened when on a 40mph lane and looking to overtake a cyclist, so a drop down in gears or speed, has also happen on a bank, coming off a slip road but also at a services after being on the motorway for a while (happened a few times on the motorway now which is concerning as you always thinking of it happening). Doesn’t tend to happen if you are just staying local.

Happened again last week only the difference this time was that the car would not start at all, was almost as if the battery had cut out too, took an RAC guy connecting his cables for it to instantly start again (though by that time had called for it to be towed). Again took at to garage who said to keep local till it goes for MOT in a few weeks.

Any thoughts, as this situation where it would t start at all is an advance on it starting after a few minutes, though neither situation is good obviously??

Have heard things from a hole in a pipe to a disconnected wire (which can’t be it as it would never work) to dirt in the throttle gauge to a coil getting too hot and having to cool down. With no real knowledge obviously have to go with what is said but sounds like nobody has a solid answer which isnt great because would be good to have this definately sorted as it’s always a thought when going somewhere and in the wrong situation could be dangerous. Last week was just after a corner and the police had to direct traffic until sorted. Also is strange that once it does turn over or powered like the RAC guy did while randomly driving past that everything just works again. Yesterday went out (locally) and although the cutout problem didn’t happen, after I’d parked for a while it took a few times to start. Not sure if that’s related if now a separate issue.

Hi, welcome to this forum!

In future always post new threads into the main area for this version of Ibiza as this section is for moderators etc placing answers toe Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

More people will see and read your postings and so give quicker answers if you do that.

Back to your problem, this sounds a bit crazy, surely a proper SEAT dealership or a proper VW Group indie would get to the bottom of this either based on experience of this model or just by good old basic knowledge of how things work, good luck.

Oh bother! I've just had a look, and you have copied this into the area for the previous version of Ibiza!! That is if your car is 6J Ibiza.

Maybe copy it again and leave a posting in the wrong one to tell people to ignore it, I'm not sure if you can delete that posting as I've never tried to do that - also sometimes with these forums there is a time limit on when you can alter a posting.

Cheer up, you are getting there, no one is going to laugh at you for making "newbie" mistakes.
