i know there have been messages about this before but i still have a problem

basically, when going over bumps i have a knocking feeling through the steering wheel

a few months ago my local dealer (reluctantly) changed a clamp that is on the steering collumn down behind the pedals (behind a plastic cover). That helped but it is starting to rattle again

the dealer is useless and i thought i would ask if anyone else has had a similar problem?? - it makes the car nasty to drive

I had this twice on my Ibiza before I sold it earlier this year.

My problem was the bearing at the top of the column just behind the steering wheel.

Dealer refused to acknowledge the problem until I forced them to remove the steering wheel and check. After removing the bearing there was 1-2mm of movement in the inner bearing race!!!

The bearing was changed and it cured the problem.

I had exactly the same problem on my Rover 220SDi, the column bearing was worn and allowed the column to rattle during turns over bumpy ground.
