we have had an increasing noise problem when turning lock to lock on the near extremes, sounds like its a creaking noise and it produces a rumbling through the steering wheel this is at slow speeds and when parking and its driving us nuts, we changed the front top strut mounts and bearings and since everything was seized took us 10hrs a side as we generally had to cut everything off or drill out bolts that had sheared, not change the noise but ride is sure smooth now! changed anti roll bar bushes and drop links, again no change to noise....so now on closer inspection the belt that is around the power steering pulley when we have it on full lock it appears to stutter breiefly like its stop starting. We have seen on other forums that it might be the alternator pulley but we have tested the pulley when engine is off and it moves in one direction as it should and the tensioner pulley doesn't bounce, car has aircon but is never used. We think its the power steering pump but don't want to spend another weekend in the garage if we can help it.

steering rumble

its a good idea to run air con at least every week since the fluid lubricates the seals preventing them drying out
