Steering sensitivity

Today i put a new alarm system and they had to disconnect the battery for a short period. When they finished and took the car back to home i noticed that the steering wheel light on the panel was activated and after some meters it came off.

The problem is that i feel the steering wheel lighter than before and i wonder if the battery power disconnection resets the steering electromechanical system and it's lighter because it adjusting itself.

Is it possible ? Will it return to normal ? Does it need special adjustment ?

Thanks

This have happened to me loads of times. The light goes out when the rack has done full left and right lock turns. It tells the ecu where the rack stops are. Te steering feeling should come back to normal.

Immediately after the light goes off or after some time ?

You can on some models adjust the weighty-ness of the steering wheel. Unless some one has previously adjusted it. after you disconnected the battery, it should go back to what you had origionaly.

The best way to do it is to drive to a large empty area, car park?. Then go full lock to lock whilst going forward at 5-10mph. This should put the light out. Hope this helps.

Steering Limit Stop Adaptation

* Center steering wheel (±10°) and hold it centered for 5 seconds.
* Turn steering wheel completely to the left and hold it there for a second.
* Turn steering wheel completely to the right and hold it there for a second.
* Center steering wheel (±10°).
* Switch OFF engine and ignition.
* Switch ON ignition.
* Wait 5 seconds.
* Steering Assist Warning Lamp should went OFF.

Steve, yes the light switched off, thanks

tacroy, thanks a lot for the detailed instructions...i assume that this procedure must be done with the vehicle stopped

Searching more for this subject i found that a steering angle adaption can be also performed through vagcom.

In the manual it says that when the steering assistance light goes on (after battery disconnection) than you must drive for 50 meters to go off.

So does it need the limit stop or steering angle adaption every time a power disconnection occurs or it needs it only on long-time disconnections ?

There is a procedure for the VAG-COM routine on the Ross-Tech Wiki.

Yes, thats where i found the info about the steering angle adaption but does it need to adapt it on every electric power loss ?

Because the system is an electric servo motor it will have to be reset via VAGCOM - there may be a local Seatcupra.net member who has VAGCOM and is prepared to reset or back to your local dealer

Dealer said that there's no need to reset anything, just do some meters and it will be fine :confused:

Does it need to reset through vagcom each time the battery disconnects ? It seems strange...and complex maintenance
