    Hi All,

First time posting, have looked for an answer on the site but cannot see one, so though I'd ask.

I'm looking to replace the OEM Stereo in my 09 mk4 Ibiza. My intention is to replace it with a double din stereo with more features, but my main point of apprehension at this time is the steering remote I have. It is the off-left remote just below the indicator switches, it has 5 buttons and a wheel, I've attached a picture.

    My questions are:

how easy is this to hook up to an aftermarket stereo?

has anyone done this and maintained most functionality of the remote?

What (if any) pitfalls can come with attempting to do this?

I know the questions are slightly subjective, but I would class myself at an intermediate skill level, I've installed a couple of stereos in the past and have a basic working knowledge of electronics.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance, feel free to ask for any more information.

Hey, did you ever find an answer to this? I too am looking to replace my stock head unit (with a Sony double din) and have a 2011 Ibiza mk4 with the same remote mounted controls.

Please let me know if you came up with a solution.

You're best bet is seeing if Connects2 have a patch cable, also double check your headunit actually accepts steering wheel remote input.

Don't expect all the buttons to work as they originally did, but usually volume +/- and next/previous track work ok.

Thank you - I've actually been connected with InCarTec after hearing some not great reviews about Connects2. They gave me a list of part numbers that have it working straight out of the box. If anyone is interested:

    49-VW-01 - CANbus Wiring Adapter
    50-748 - Fascia Plate
    51-012 - Metal Cage
49-008 - Steering Wheel Control Remote
21-123 - Fakra to DIN arial adapter

The total cost is £120.15 plus shipping which is pricey considering the Sony XAV-AX3005DB is £319 on its own. But DAB and Apple CarPlay would be a nice addition... I'll let you know if I bite the bullet and make an install video.

I know this is an old post but you’re looking for advice relating to a mk5 not a mk4. The mk4 is the 6L 2002-2008. Did you buy these bits already? You might get more help in the mk5 section. Could be worth shopping around too, I’m sure you can find the steering wheel control adapter for less that £59.99
