Hi All
Car makes a strange noise when cold. Sounds like a "chuffing" noise which we identified as coming from what seemed to be the alternator. Very carefully sprayed a little WD40 on to the drive shaft and it stopped. Couple of days later started again. Got a local mobile mechanic to take a look whilst doing something else to the car and he said it's the pulley. As it happened he had a used spare on the van so fitted FOC and all was quiet again. But after a couple of days started again. This time had a new pulley fitted and again all was well....for a couple of days then started again! This time had a new belt fitted and again noise stopped but again only for a couple of days.

Anyone had anything similar or have any idea what it could be, possibly have to get a new alternator?
