Superguard or Autoglym Protect

Hi folks,

Im in the process of buying a new Leon, and got the choice of two places to purchase from.

One place says they can Superguard the new car for me before I pick it up for £250. Superguard places a film over the entire car protecting it for 3 years. It also does the whole interior and again this is guaranteed for 3 years.

The other place can do Autoglym Protect for £325. I haven't managed to get any other info about Autoglym Protect from anywhere tho, including phoning Autoglym (no answer).

Does anyone have any experience of either of these products please, and if so could you let me know what you think of them ?

You can buy the superguard yourself and apply it... in contrast to the price my mate works for Totoya and the guys there are doing my LCR (job on the side ) for 50quid inside and out...

The dealers are ripping you off with that price

Oh and if the superguard is applyed well its supposed to keep the paint in top nick and dosen't need waxing.. you'll still get stone chips thou

I was offered A'glym Lifeshine for £199 when I ordered my LCR. Mate of mine works in the valeting trade and he's given me a couple of cans of the interior waterproofing treatment for nothing - apparently a complete kit costs £50-60. The rest is a mix of profit/labour.

Of the 2 I've heard better things about Lifeshine - if it was me I'd play them off against each other and try and get them to throw Lifeshine in for free or you'll go with the other dealer. What kind of deal are they offering on the car, as nobody should be paying list on an LCR now. Plenty of scope for discounting

On my car I'm going to apply the interior A'glym treatment myself (when I get around to it!). I've just had the car Armourfend'd (do a search - it's a clear plastic film that prevents stone chips) and once that's had a chance to 'settle' I'll be getting the outside of the car Swissol'd.

A customer of mine who is a mobile vehicle valeter, will Superguard your motor for a lot less than that. PM me if youwant his details, works in and around the crewe area.

Sounds like the dealers are making a killing then.

I've heard of Armourfend but I've seen some that have gone yellow after 6 months of it being done. But that could be down to the owner washing their car too soon after having it applied.

Adrian, Simon at cupras4less can get me a new LCR for 16666 thats not a pre reg.

I think I'll buy the car standard then and look into getting it Armourfended asap as stone chips are my main worry.

Adrian, how much for the Armourfend if you don't mind me asking ?

The total cost for Armourfend (fitted at their place in Nazeing, Essex) was about £450 (after 10% forum discount on parts only) which included all areas they can do except the door steps (have chrome sill guards), rear door edges and front fog lights (because mine's an '05 car and for some reason the design is completely different to older cars and is too 'pointed' in the centre to put film on)

Mine's platinum grey and you can't see it at unless you get within a few feet and know where to look. It's quite a few sections so it's mainly the joins/edges that are visible.

I have noticed one area that's gone yellow - not sure of the reason but will give them a ring and see if I can remove it with anything. it's about the size of a bug splat so could be that!

I got mine done with about 2k on the clock and I already had 3 stone chips on the bumper - 2 I collected on the way up there!!

I have a tin of supaguard at home, some sponge you have to pierce and apply etc. Do you have to be careful when doing the job or should it be applied by a specialist?

Supagard base packs are £30+VAT from Nissan dealers. Part number 99998-56005 if anyone wants one.

In that you get the paint sealer and a tin of interior protector. There might also be some wheelgard in there too.

As you can see, the rest if profit.

I'm sure that's the right number, I haven't ordered any at work for a while.

99% of Nissan dealers will stock it as Nissan target them on it.

These two products are basically the same and it will take them approx 1 hour to do this protection and it doesnt make it look much different and as for lasting for 3 years .

I will treat your car using swissol and will take me around 5-6 hrs and the finish is next to none ,also it will last for a year no probs .

i would never pay the top whack for any product like that, a simple £15 product will do the job just the same job, there is also no need for fancy expensive waxes either as a £12 tin of a certain wax will outlast and outshine most if not all other waxes

I had my Almera GTI supaguarded and have to confess I don't think it made much difference. I can't speak for Armaguard though.

my new cupra came with supaguard, i didnt pay for it and they put it on by mistake,i would never ask for it, and i usually ask them not to clean it at all (as this is were the swirls and marks come from, you ever seen the sponges these guys use ) but a quick polish and its all gone now, your lucky if this stuff lasts months, never mind years

Not everyone can afford Swissol though....
