tailgate struts issue?

Since a while we've noticed the tailgate on our Cupra Ateca (manual, not electric) opens very slowly and often gets stuck halfway.
Car is checked in to the dealer early January, so I'll definitively mention it there. But anyone here with the same issue? Or with a DYI remedy - don't have good hopes for the dealer to fix it in a "quick service"...

If it is not electric, I would imagine it can only be hinge or strut related.
You could try cleaning and spraying some WD40 around the hinge pins, and giving the metal and mounting parts of the strut a clean and rub with a WD40 soaked cloth.
If that does not help, I would say it sounds like one or both of the struts need replacing.

I have the impression at least one of the struts is broken - hinges are fine, WD40 didn't help.
It's added to the to-do list for the first maintenance in 2 weeks.
