Thank god for SEAT and Vauxhall. How pi55 poor was the BTCC grid on Sunday? , two factory teams, a car you can't officially buy in the UK and one that doesn't exist anymore. :censored:

The trouble began years ago, when the Super tourers pretty much brought the sport to its knee's, it became far too expensive, and as the car industry hit a downturn, the manufacturers could no longer justify the huge costs. for example what manufacturers spent on one or two races in the 90s could close to run them a full season in the BTCC now, such did the costs escalate.

Also poor marketing and promotion of the series during the early 00s.

However Alan Gow is doing what he did in the 90s, he's turning it around again, the rot has been stopped, and its brilliant to see enthusiastic independants as well as manufacturers, they have every right to be out there as the manufacturers.

With the rules going to S2000 only for manufacturers in 2007, it should entice the manufacturers back, as they already have programmes in the Worlds using the same spec, so making it much easier for them to make the commitment.

Regardless, its still the best motorsport series in the UK, every race is pure entertainment, and the MG ZS, was on the podium for all 3 races, not bad for a car that is no longer built. **** Bennets WSR team is not to be underestimated.

Yep, don't underestimate the **** Bennetts WSR cars, really good outfit, old cars now obviously, but the team are first rate, and the development hasn't stopped on the car. And Turk is definately at home in the MG ZS, as he demonstrated in 2004, and showed the same kind of pace last weekend at Brands.

The championship has only just begun, and its a great start for SEAT Sport, but the series is still wide open.

yeah i'll agree the MG's looked fast and they have a top class racing outfit behind them.. It's such a shame that more manufacturers dont bother with it anymore. It may be cost cutting but it can do so much for their reputations, just look what it did for volvo at the time. We really had the best touring car series in the world in the mid nineties but it is heading in the right direction, just needs a bit of faith from the big boys.

I agree its a shame there are only two manufacturer teams , but its nice to be a able to see the independants mixing it up with the big boys , if you look at the DTM you get Merc vs Audi only !!

Also there is to be a new "production cup" (Dunlop sport Maxx ???) championship next year which will act as a feeder series for the touring cars , hopefully this will contribute to the BTCC rejuvenation.

Only the BMW and Alfa which were having horrendous problems all weekend, but hopefully they should be better next time. Fiona Leggate had a bit of a mare weekend too.

Mike Jordan for example was right up there in the mix, outstanding drive, he will be a threat this year no doubt.
