The “where the bleeding hell is my Cupra ST I ordered months ago” thread

Any ideas what the spec changes for my20 are?

I wish I did. They’ve dangled a carrot and I still can’t reach it. With the Lux I’m not sure where they go as it has almost everything. Perhaps they’ll add upgraded hifi, or a pan roof, or driver assistance pack. If the non lux gets some lux spec I’d be tempted to go with that to save on the monthlies.

I just feel like I’ve entered in to something that is going to frustrate me as things move forward. And I wasn’t prepared for that really.

Hopefully you get the red you ordered. Quite why the palette is reduced so much is beyond me. Personally I love the contrast the pano roof offers with silver which is what I’d ordered. Doubtful we will get that and so I’ll go magnetic unless there are any new additions for the run-out models.

Guys, new member here, drawn to the site because I’ve placed an order with a local dealer for a Cupra ST Lux with Pano roof. Initial delivery date (unconfirmed) of “October”...

However - apparently they haven’t placed my order as they have recommended waiting for Model Year 20, rather than placing an order for current Model Year 19. There will be some spec changes and the switch from 19-20 is apparently imminent.

Then I made the mistake of reading this thread and feel like I’ve got a very long wait ahead.

What are the issues with the Lux? How come communication is so bad with the factory and what dealers are told?

Finally, I’d ordered silver but the Seat uk press office tell Me that isn’t available, despite my dealer telling me it is.

Any help appreciated. Cheers.

Nobody I've spoken to at SEAT has been willing to tell me what is causing the delay with the ST Lux. I've pushed pretty hard to no avail!

My understanding was that SEAT weren't accepting any new Lux orders, hence perhaps why your dealer hasn't placed it.

From my experience, SEAT are only responsible for the manufacturing and production of the vehicle. Dealer network is there to sell the cars. From the outside, the communication flow between them seem to be pretty poor!

So if you want reliable info about orders lead time/ model year switch etc my advice would be to speak to SEAT customer service.

Okay, your response prompted me to call UK Customer Service. Latest is: Lux orders are suspended until MY20 which should be available to order from mid July. I suspect some withholding of info from my local dealer on this but nothing I can prove.

They’ve dressed it up as “we are ensuring you’re getting the latest model” which I initially believed but I’d rather deal in facts as opposed to fiction. They obviously want to keep the order and haven’t divulged fully due to fear of me walking away.

My “order” is literally a copy of a quote on a desk and until anyone actually is able to generate an order on the system, it means nothing. We left thinking we’d ordered the car. I feel as though our time has been wasted. They haven’t even told me whether a non lux would be any quicker.

Thoughts on what I do next please guys.

You could do what I did.

Cancel the Lux ST order.
Order a Blackness Grey Cupra R ST from a Seat Cupra Dealer (22 of them I think in UK) that are available now.
I know Duff Morgan Norwich have a spare one to sell without the sunroof.
The cars are sat at Tyne port as we speak waiting for a transporter.
Other Cupra dealers may even have them already in stock already !!!

They are somewhat more expensive, but I can assure you there is wiggle room on the price.

This’ll be my wife’s car and whilst I like the R, we both very much like the sleeper / q-car appeal of the regular car. Typical I’ve chosen to get involved between MY19/20. Wonder if they’ll sell me their demo??

I had a chat with Cupra agent through rtheir website today. Gleaned a bit more info although need to get more details from Customer Services. I'm advised that Seat Leon Cupra will soon be rebadged as Cupra Leon. Not sure on exactly what will change, but front and rear badges will be the Cupra logo rather than the SEAT 'S'. I guess other stuff like steering wheel logo will change too. Guy I spoke to said no other changes (spec should stay the same) although does sound as though this change will delay orders. I'll see what Customer Services say tomorrow...

Isn’t this for the next gen Leon? Sorry, Cupra! Seems odd to rebadge entirely at such a late stage for a run-out model. Would’ve thought it’d be more of an LCI release.

Could be wrong. Often am.

That's what I thought too. The guy I spoke to was focussed on the Ateca, so will check this with Customer Services.
It might help explain some of the delays, if it is the rebranding of exterior and interior parts - although why the Lux ST would be more affected, who knows?

Got this today from my broker who queried Seat UK for me:

The customer is correct, the Cupra Lux will open for ordering week 28 (around 7th July), the only difference will be that the MY20 Cupra Lux gets heated bucket seats with microsuede upholstery which replaces leather sports seats.

Not sure what microsuede is.... Alcantara??

Great. Just read this out to my wife who really liked the Ateca buckets. Also, great to have a timescale which is more than anyone offered from Seat or the dealership. Thanks for asking.

Apparently demand for Alcantara (the branded product) is high these days and the factory is struggling to keep up with demand, therefore other similar microsuede products are being used instead.

I think the leather/alcantara mix is better than full leather tbh. Nicer to sit on and has a more premium feel.

Do we think they’ll still Ben badged at Seats for MY20?

I’ve been scaring myself with stories of theft. What have you guys done to deter thieves on your driveways? I’ve installed ring security lights and cameras so far and have lockable gates but need more.

Tbh, why would you want leather? Hot as hell in summer and freezing in winter. Maybe if it came as standard in a luxury car ( Audi A8 etc ) I could accept leather. And todays interiors with coatings etc is easy to keep clean :)

I’ve had confirmation from Seat UK press office today that the above info on seats and order re-opening for MY20 around 7/7/19 is indeed correct. A slight price increase of around £375 for the Lux is also to be expected.

Colours are black, grey, red and at least one white. No silver. Pano roof is still available to order as an option.

If any of the above turns out to be BS, blame the press office, and not me ;-)

PS - @Mikertroid - I’d already asked them these questions and wasn’t questioning the accuracy of your broker’s info.

Reading this thread sounds so familiar to last year!

I ordered mine in Feb 2018 and got the car on the 19th November.

It took a long long time but the wait was worth it.

Thats good to hear. I reckon any orders approaching the model year change get pooled for production. It wouldn’t surprise me if they barely produced any from March to July.

When our order is entered on the system I think it’ll get produced along with batches that have been ordered much earlier (like yours lasting year) so I’m hopeful of a ‘19 delivery before Christmas. Just in time for the even crapper weather.

I asked about any spec changes on Lux yesterday. Customer Services liaised with Product Support team and advise they currently have no info about this. But, I suspect your info is correct.

I now have a confirmed build week of week 26  so expect will be current spec.
Order placed through broker end of February, but think it didn't go off until 1 March. Cupra Lux ST with pano roof.

SEAT CS advise approx 7-8 weeks for delivery to dealer. Is that an overestimate?

What colour? I think in that build week you’d probably get leather sports rather than “alcantara” buckets. But either way you have yourself a very capable car coming very soon. Unlike me.

Re: delivery to dealer - it gets built in two weeks and let’s assume it’s in production for 10 days. I’d give it five weeks max for shipping so I don’t think they’re too far off. And why would they be? They should be experts by now.
