So I was looking at getting a brand new Seat Leon Cupra (pending what finance people say) looked on Seats website, nice car looks good. Went to the engine configure thing and what do I see...... you can only have a DSG...... Well I'm sorry, count me out. I hate Autos, hate DSG, hate anything but manual and yes I know, DSG shift way faster than what I can, DSG are way better (to some people) but the whole idea of a Cupra is for the driving pleasure and having a DSG takes that away, well for me anyway. Seat really f**ked people with that.

I'm not talking down on them or anything like that, I just think they should of done a manual in them along with DSG so you got the choice, kinda sucks. Guess everyone is going DSG, that's why I don't even entertain new cars now because they're all going to DSG.

Guess I'll go for an older model Leon.

From memory this is all to do with the Emission standards (WLTP) meaning its easier to get cars through the test with DSG vs Manual.

3 Door Cars are going to be a thing of the past (another car they had to test and demand is not there)

Golf only comes in DSG as well if I recall correctly.

This is also why on the 5 door car it had to drop to 290 vs the 300 that the ST Comes with.

But there are some nice nearly new cars out that that have what you want and will also save you a bit of money.

I used to feel exactly this way. Then I got old. And injured my knee. And uprated the clutch so the pedals rock solid. Now I wish I had DSG LOL.

My knees are both destroyed, everytime I walk I'm in pain, but that wouldn't stop me from having a super heavy clutch, I prefer manual and I'll put up with the pain just for the connection with the car.

It may also be related to the fact the the Mk3 Leon is due to be replaced this year i.e. SEAT looking to limit their investment in such a limited production run (same story with the Golf).

Time will tell whether the Mk4 is available with a manual gearbox.

Having only ever owned manuals myself, I too felt the auto's were a waste of time and took the pleasure from the drive. That was until I test-drove the Leon Cupra on Monday. It blew me away (literally). It's way smoother and more responsive than I imagined it would be. Not at a single point did I think I'd have rather been in a manual. I had an A6 as a courtesy last year which was Auto, and I found it sluggish as hell. Each to their own I guess but I can't wait to take delivery of my Cupra.

I like a good manual gearshift in a car, but very happy now with the DSG in our Cupra Ateca. Especially since it can still be used in manual mode, with the flappy paddles behind the steering wheel, and since we do about 2h of traffic jam every work day...

It would seem from Seat website that Leon is only available in 1.6/2.0 TDI so there are no petrol models, probably due to impending MK4?
