Afternoon! Going to get my car a new belt fitted, However I've been told that I may only need the belt?

For those of you who have had this done did you guys just get the belt changed or did the change the pully wheels as well?

Did you mention year/engine? Mine 1.6tdi is a belt, get the kit with everything (I'd always go OEM with something like this) and also change the water pump at the same time, that's what I did and my advice

You could change just the belt but the parts are relatively cheap and it's not something you do everyday so while you are in there I wouldn't scrimp personally if you're planning on keeping it for a bit.

    2.0 tdi FR+ 170ps is my car.

The belt I was getting was made by continental for £50 and the kit from continental for my car was £168 Although the first garage I phoned quoted £449 for belt change and waterpump.

I'll be keeping the car probably another 2 years so worthwhile getting top of the range parts.

What do you think about my quoted price?

I suspect the OEM part could be continental anyway. Price seems reasonable I paid a little more (but less than dealers) purchasing all the OEM parts off sere motors on here (try Listers Seat section now) and got my local VW specialist to fit it all for me.

Dealers do a standard price on the same job and if you get them to do it also includes a 5yr warranty on the same, think it's around £530 with a water pump (which is cheaper if you get it with the cambelt kit)

Thanks mate. Ive just been quoted £105 for timingbelt kit and water pump, heavily discounted. So it's just a case of finding a garage to do it.

It's worth checking your local dealer I'm sure mine had a deal when they replaced my Belt and Pump, something like £100 off.
