Timing Belt Tensioner Failed

Hi everyone,

Just wondering how much a top engine rebuild is on the a 2005 seat Leon Cupra R? Estimate
or any place that does cylinder head refurbished and prices? :/

As titled, started her up cut out straight away tried to restart and wouldn't I did here a little thud noise when it cut out, so unclipped cambelt cover, belt is able to be moved on the pulley so = failed timing belt tensioner am thinking.

It still turned over when I tried to start it so its not locked the engine but possibly I think still damaged valves? (obviously won't try now knowing tensioner fail)

Am towing it to garage tomorrow gutted really is on 99k miles and cambelt kit was done @ 73k

Would it be better to try putting another timing belt kit on and compression testing it? to check valves before any expensive work?

For anyone who is interested its £325 incl VAT for a BAM engine cylinder head refurbishment
And 4.2 hours labour to take the cylinder head off and put in back on.

what was the labour costs and where did you take it? I'm thinking of getting my valve stem oil seals done as got a little smoke on idle

Depends which garage you take it mate and how much they charge and hour, back street garage £35-£40 an hour dealership £75+ p/h then parts like head gasket set & timing belt kit & water pump while your taking it off then +VAT on top.

Also include the price of the head refurb of £325 as well this is from a engine specialist in Wigan.
(includes checking valve stem oil seals/replacement if needed) Head skim & pressure testing, cleaning valve etc.

But on a brighter note it wasn't the timing belt tensioner that failed on me car as all the timing belt markings line up correct & tensioner dampener was fine maybe the belt tensioner tightens up when running but I missed judged that lol. It was a failed fuel pump that made the engine cut out but though it would of come up with something on the OBD 2 port but it didn't.

So good news at least

that is good news and I'm glad you got it sorted, I will have a look into it as I want it to mechanically sound and to make sure its looked after so to speak.
