I am considering ordering new rubber for my Ibiza FR soon. I dont want to change the alloys as I am a cheap skate.

I wanted to go for Goodyear F1s or whatever you guys would recommend for dry weather grip.

The current rubber is 205/45

I was looking at going for 205/50 with the better quality tire as hopefully the sidewalls will be firm enough that I wont notice a difference in cornering, but it might improve how it absorbs rough surfaces as well as increase max speed by 5-10mph and correct the 5% speedo inaccuracy.

Just to confirm I assume there is no chance of safely fitting 215s etc without changing alloys.

So 2 questions....

1) Goodyear F1s or is there another make I should look at?

2) What do you think to going to 205/50 over 205/45?

The Goodyears would be a decent tyre, and hopefully better than the Dunlop SP9000's they seem to be putting on the FR - I don't feel they're that reassuring when its not bone dry. The Goodyears work well enough on the Leon so should be fine on the Beeza.

One great wet weather tyre is the Toyo T1-R but I cant remember whether they do a 205/45/16 - defintely will do a 205/50. They also reduce the road noise a bit, but can't promise on smoothing it out at all. Also the press seem to be raving about that new premium Michelin tyre (cant remember its name) - used on Clio 182.

I am looking to change the suspension on our FR as over time I am finding I just don't like it. I was going to wait till it wore out but too much travelling on appauling town roads is proving too much. I don't think tyres alone will smooth the ride much, but maybe the extra bit of profile may make a small difference.

Toyo T1-R's definitely does a 205/45/16 cos i had them on my 1.4 sport. they look pretty good aswell. i got them from blackcircles.co.uk.

So what happened? Did you go for the 205/50??? If so, how is it working so far?
