right after bein quoted £700+ to replace me timing chain i'm now wondering how i can check it first rather than pay a fortune to the local veedub specialists (bedrock veedub)

does anyone out there know how i can check the chain for wear ... is there an inspection opening???

is it possible to adjust these chains??

any help would be great...

Generally you go in via the cylinder head cover, its not usually as bad as it sounds. But I'm guessing there must be a very specific thing you're looking for, such as whether its longer than it should be or not tensioned correctly.

The first question would be, why are you looking to get it replaced? They're not the same as timing belts, chains are pretty much ok for 200k miles at least. I think the service manual suggests a visual check at 120k, but they don't even list a replacement schedule.

it was a mate who mentioned horror stories of the chains snapping and destroying engines on the 2.3 tolly's and golfs that got me thinkin that mine was maybe due a change

the dark destroyer is currently at 177,000 so was thinking it was due a change....

panic over!!
