Hi Everyone,

I've recently encountered a potentially serious issue with my 2001 (Y) Toledo (TDI SE). Whilst on the motorway with a tape being played in the cassette player. The temperature guage goes to full (overheat) (yellow dot) along with a constant beeping. This has happened a couple of times. On both occasions I have turned the engine off for a few minutes and resumed driving the car without the radio/cassette being on and it has appeared to be OK as I have driven 240 and 35 miles respectively without the radio/cassette with temp guage needle pointing in the middle.

Although this may seem like a workaround, I am still concerned that this happens and was wondering if anyone else has come accross this issue and whether it will affect you with the radio switched off. I would like to listen to radio or the cassette without feeling that the engine is going to blow so if anyone has any experience on this issue your help and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I seriously doubt that its the engine actually overheating, a tape player doesn't do that much!!

It's more likely going to be an electrical problem either in the engine bay or behind the dash. As a first step, put the car on VAG COM, as a failed temperature sensor on a friends tolly appeared in there, and explained his dodgy temperature readings. A few minutes work to swap it out and everything was fine.
