OK then... Fan working when switch end of cable bridged, Thermostat housing screws rusted in solid and hard to get too. All hoses are hot after half hour on the motorway - is this a good sign that hot water is flowing around ant that thermo open, or should I have hot and cold pipes? Hoping that hot pipes a good sign and can just replace rad switch. 1.8 GLX cordoba M Reg
Any help appreciated - Lee

Thanks for that - HOT PIPES ANSWERED - As for WD40, I'd normally use this - but to make it doubly awkward - the thermo housing is in a elbow which is so awkwardly posistioned under the swinging arm that the timing belt (or fan belt) is on, cant get any tools near bolts unless I remove alternator (i think) and timing bet arm thing - which will be messy setting back up - Unlike my Golf MK II thermo which just dropped out - brilliant. Switch should be cheap enough - so I'll do that first. Thanks again.
