hi all, happy holidays and such!

since i'm in holiday leave, decided to do some work on the car.
thought to myself what's next on the list after the plastic cover.

so went to the car, unbolted the 'S' badge fron the boot lid,
and set about to paint.

first needed to remove the chrome coating, fairly easy job, took 10 mins.
then sended it down, using water paper, started 180 grit all the way up to 2500 grit.
washed it, let it dry then primer.

two layers of primer, 15 mins between coats, ended up with this:

then i set about giving it two layers of paint, decided i'm gonna use matt black for this job.
again 3 layer of coating, 15 mins between each one.

end result as you see below:

sorry for the bad pics quality, took them at night.

let it dry over night, then decided something missing.

so did the same thing to the 'S' housing,
sand it down, primed then decided i wanna break the black,

3 layer of FIRE RED with 2 layer of lacquer 20 mins between each coat.

But still something didn't work for me.

So took the old masking tape and masked the 's':

First layer of red:

so now just letting it dry for about 2 hours, and after that, pics from installing it on car :)

thanks for reading!!

Love it! Bondiblu did u do that one yourself?

Yes, my boot handle was sticking, so found a new one on eBay and set to work. I went a step further and separated the 'S' surround from the 'S' therefore I didn't need mask up. I'd also suggest taking into account the thickness of the paint, as you don't want it catching when reassembled.

Is the gear knob a stright fit ? And were did you get the gaitor ?

mk5 gear knob straight fit, just widen the colar on the original, pull it up, get the new one,
put it in close the colar, and there you go..

got the the gaitor fron an ebay seller, was a PITA installing since it came with rubber band,
so u can't just play dress up on the gaitor housing, I needed to remodel it..

Well done for thinking outside the box!

I think you should have left the black for longer before masking for the red!

It's a shame about the marks on it though!
