Had a look at a petrol FR on Sunday morning and thought it looked very nice in Luna Grey. I had root under the pax seat looking for the USB port but it wasn't there.

I can't find any mention of it the Leon brochure I picked up and not much mention of it via search either.

Is it still available?
Does the iPod kit include it?
How does it feed the HU? Via the changer interface like the iPod Link?

I like to have plenty of music on tap - I've got use to having a 6 CD MP3 changer and a CD MP3 HU in my Ibiza.

TIA.

From reading the manual in my MY2007 Leaon Fr, it is still mentioned so I guess still available. It also sounds like it replaces the changer, just like the iPod link (which I have and does not do track names). I believe it is fitted under the passenger seat.

The brochure says that the I POD and the USB port is under the passenger seat but it is actually under the drivers seat. Either is still available, but are only available seperately, not together. It feeds the headunit from the auxillary socket on the unit, as on 07MY there is no CD changer input on the stereo. If you have the USB or I POD kit you also lose the AUX socket on the centre console.

Hope this helps

Not sure that is correct. I believe the iPod/USB interfaces go in the drawer under passenger seat. The optional CD changer (there is an input to the stereo for a CD changer) goes under the drivers seat if fitted.

The iPod/USB interface replaces the CD changer/aux connection (same connection on radio). Therefore, you can have one of the 4 options connected to the radio - aux, or cd changer, or iPod, or USB. The iPod interface emulates a CD changer (even if the iPod is not connected, it looks like you have a CD playing in your non-existant CD changer). I susupect the same is true for the USB.

Hmmm. Thanks chaps.

Does any manufacturer offer a "proper" MP3 solution? Not some half-arsed bodge? By that I mean track names on the display, not limited to five play-lists as there's something emulating a CD changer - that sort of thing.

The Alpine CD HU and 6 CD changer I've got in my Ibiza is 3.5 years old and works like it should (MP3 on both HU and changer, scrolling track names, folder support etc). I find it hard to believe manufacturers are so far behind the audio companies.

Looking at the new Octavia, IIRC the CD changer in the boot feeds the HU via an analogue link so doesn't handle MP3s. Rubbish!

The brochure says that it is under the passenger seat, but I delivered one with the factory fit I-POD kit last saturday and it was under the drivers seat. I assume the USB will be in the same place.

CD changer is no longer an option on 07MY cars, only the USB or I-POD connection.

The manual says...
The function keys CD1 to CD6 of the radio can only select the first 5 folders. If there are more than 6 folders in the memory stick or MP3 player their content cannot be played. (I know that doesn't make sense).

'Papdog' - can you confirm if the iPod interface under the seat is a dock, or just a lead? I ordered the iPod interface and stealer said couldn't get it in time so fitted the iPod accessory kit in the glovebox - just a flying lead which means iPod can rattle around in the glovebox... its rubbish.

I-POD interface under the seat is a dock with different "shims" for want of a better word, for the different sizes of I-POD.

As far as the dealer lead goes, what we do is fit the I-POD lead so that it comes out into the centre console tray in front of the gear lever as it is easier to get at and doesn't slide about.

That's kack

Thanks for the info.

Scott

Dodgy MP3 "support" doesn't just seem to affect Seat. Skoda offer a 6CD changer in the boot on almost all new Octavia's but it doesn't support MP3s. The Alpine HU & 6CD changer I had put into my Ibiza 3 1/2 years ago supports MP3 CDs and can handle multiple folders etc.

Using a 3rd party iPod link smacks, IMHO, of a can't-be-bothered attitude.

It's to the side of the hand brake! Not sure exactly how you suppose to run the lead or position the pod to make it look tidy though. Does have a natty little flip up cover.

Cool.

So to confirm the USB/Ipod (same?) option with the 5 folder limit means that you can only ever listen to the first five artists on your player?

My iriver player has an aux output which seems like the best option.

The USB and iPod options are not the same - you can have one or the other.
The USB option works as described above, the iPod option is the Dension Ice Link Plus if you choose the dealer fit option, and I suspect also the factory fit option, but with some kind of cradle under the seat.

In terms of operation of the iPod (factory or dealer fit), buttons 1-5 select first 5 playlists on iPod. Button 6 brings up a menu ON THE IPOD SCREEN (which is under your seat or in your glovebox!!!). This allows you to select from your other playlists, or 'album play', as well as configure a few other options.
