I was hoping for a 13.5 so extremely pleased with how it went. And fairly confident theres a 12 in it now

4th fastest of the day, and second fastest in class behind an R34 Skyline GTR and a couple of very fast Imprezas.

Nice read there - excellent job on the car.

Just looked at the Crail site and saw the times on the 11th.

http://crailraceway.co.uk/showdrag.php?RID=27&EVDate=2014-05-11

The 13.18 is a very good time, pairing up with a very good launch. The times seem very inconsistent though. Was it wet? I am trying to figure out how you managed one 13.18 and the next best was 13.58 and the terminal speeds are fairly consistent at 109-111mph on all runs?

13.18 (2.18 60 foot)
13.58 (2.36 60 foot)
13.6
13.63
13.73
13.94
14.06
14.10
14.14
14.23

At the risk of sounding cheeky (I'm not trying to be) was the single fastest run one where it all pulled together, a fluke or was the timing gear at it?

Keep at it though! Glad to see another fast Leon strutting its stuff in Scotland :)

No need to worry about being cheeky, you'll never be as cheeky as me . The times were inconsistent for a couple of reasons.
I was trying different things at launch and through the run (i.e. the car will rev to 7800rpm, but i wasnt always revving it out, Tried short shifting to second etc), it was raining on and off, and there were two drivers.

I'm fairly confident that the timing gear was ok, but as its Crail, you never know. I was having a decent battle with a turbo DC5 that was doing 13.2-13.8s all day.

Strangely, my big problem was bogging down on the launch, as opposed to most people worrying about wheelspin.

I'm planning to get some weight out of it and get back up there soon, but 1/4 miles arent really my thing.

Hopefully get a dry night for Knockhill next week and see how it does there :D

Interesting that it bogs down. You need more revs in that case and keep the fine line between bogging down and lighting up the tyres.

In my experience in the 1/4 mile, short shifting does not result in quicker times. Ever. Plenty of people do it and fail miserably to get a quick time.

Try holding the car at spool, let out the clutch reasonably quickly and feather the throttle at 50-75% of max initially in 1st to near the max power point (rather than to max revs) and then changing to second, again feathering if needed until grip occurs. It seems to work in most of the front drive cars i have driven. Then there is the bum/brain dyno part or "feel" which experience with a car helps to understand how best to get the most out of it.

Less weight will definitely make a positive difference to performance. That and throwing the air conditioning in the bin. If you are running 360bhp and doing 13.1 with a full interior, you will make 12.9 with the rear seat, passenger seat and spare wheel etc out the car. Try a light weight battery too - you lose about 15kg with that ;)

Knockhill - thats really where you want to be. That power, a diff, good suspension and decent brakes (make sure you have DOT51 in there) and you will be chasing, scaring and beating a lot of so called faster cars like Focus RS's etc round the track :cheeky:

Yeh I think more practice at crail will help. When I'd kinda settled on what was best, the heavens opened.

Don't think it's quite as much as 360bhp but I'm not worried about Focus RS's
Unfortunately it doesn't have good suspension yet but everything else is good. So we'll see how it copes.
The AC is staying for now as it's just cost me a fortune for a new pump

The bogging down - the problem I have is that I have a launch control setting in the map that activates with the clutch in, 1st gear and 4500rpm. I have to avoid that coming on, as it's useless for launching, so I'm always trying to keep the revs low. For next time, I'll have the launch control removed which should hopefully make it a bit easier to get the revs right off the line

Scrap the a/c and save your cash!

How is the launch control working? Is it just application or % of throttle?

Being honest, i am not convinced by launch control in a front drive manual car. You still have the clutch to consider and with it not being tied in, you wont be able to be fluid with it. Fair play if it works though! If you used it every time, clearly it doesnt though. Was your 2.18 done using launch control?

So, end of the night, last session, and I decide to do 'one more lap'
Complete brake failure at the end of the straight (seems to be a theme with me), and I had a small bump across the grass

So I have a couple of small issues to sort. And next up, a complete suspension overhaul :D

Found a few more pics, and a video, thanks to Eck :D

I did have some in car footage, from my new £45 aldi equivalent to a go pro.
But I stupidly left it switched on in the pits, so most of the video was me parked up, and then when I was trying to edit it, I managed to delete the full thing

I assume this car will be at Crail on Sunday to try for a 12?
