Water Behind Petrol Flap

Today I noticed that quite a lot of water had collected behind the petrol filler flap on our Ibiza.

I had a look and noticed a hole to the left of the petrol cap which I assume is a drain hole ?

I stuck the end of a plastic cable tie in the hole but it was totally blocked, hence the reason that the water was just sitting there. See attached photo.

I had a look at our Volkswagen and that has a similar hole into which I could stick the cable tie as it was clear.

So I tried a small pointed screw driver in the hole on the Ibiza and it was spongy, so I don't think the hole was ever clear through the rubber. A slight push and it now goes through, and the hole now looks bigger !!

Question is, have I done the right thing, it did look like a drain hole to me, rather than some kind of breather for the petrol tank, anyone know ?

Hopefully there is pipe or something on the back, which hopefully I haven't pushed off, and it will drain some where sensible rather than into the boot ?

Any one else had a similar issue and had to do the same thing ?

Thanks guy's

Yeah, that's the drain hole. I believe there's a plastic pipe that leads the drainage somewhere round the wheel arch. I'd get a jug of water and tip it down and see if it goes anywhere it shouldn't. Least you'll know if its clear or not.

On the previous version of Ibiza, the soft clearish flexible plastic pipe ran down to just about or just beyond the lower edge of the wheel arch liner's innermost vertical face at a point just rearward of the centre line of the rear wheel, or slightly further back.

If you stick your fingers/hand in that area you might find it - though as you have suggested, you might just have forced that end of that pipe off the hard plastic part of the drain in which case it should be running down the back of the wheel arch liner, maybe leave sorting this until the warmer weather appears.
