After searching for a while and only finding references to a grommet where the clutch pedal should be on an automatic, which was no use to me as my car is a manual. I have come across another way through the firewall into the engine bay.
Apologies if this has already been talked about on here but I couldn't find it and just wanted to leave this here to make life easier for the next person looking.

The link is obviously for a golf mk7 but I can confirm it is also there for the Leon.
The first step is different as the Leon cover is more substantial and you need to undo 4 torx screws to remove it.
The rest is the same but bear in mind you really have to persevere to find it hidden underneath the carpet and foam insulation, I gave up once and thought it wasn't there, it was only on my last try I found it.
