Afraid I don't have a mk1 to test it on but the tool is just like VCDS, It communicates with the car's systems and allows you to make changes. I certainly see lots of guys on the golf MK5 & 6 Forums using it.

The biggest issue is that inteface protocol on the MK3 is UDS but on older cars its non UDS so you will see lots of video's on Youtube that wont match what you have on your car.

If you have a look at the OBD11 site http://forum.obdeleven.com/board/132/1m you can see what has been shown there.

Yes its a newer tool but designed to work on the broad range of VAG Cars, If you can find somebody near you with it then you can get them to show you and hopefully it will give you what you need.

Would someone with Pro please confirm if you can prime the fuel pump of a FR170.

I asked their support who weren’t very helpful.

t121anf, very sorry but I dont have a FR170, On my 2014 Cupra I have the following basic settings

Adaptation of Fuel Pump (FP)
Initial fuel filling
Drain fuel tank

on the output tests there is

Fuel pump electronics

http://forum.obdeleven.com/thread/3262/control-unit-setup

but i cant confirm it they are on your car or for that matter what they actually do hopefully they mean something to you and then you can ask OBD11 if they are on your car. The other thing to do is tell OBD11 What VCDS Function you are trying to do and they may be able to help with that.

and ifound this video for the MK7 which shares the same setup as the Leon

I connected the obdeleven in last night to the car and it showed a whole host of faults, engine control module, heated rear window, interior monitoring sensors and a few more which i thought is very peculiar. I assume the RAC guy didn't take any relays out as my wife said all he did was spray easi start into the air inlet and it started.
The car starts fine now will rev and idle with no problem again but i'm sure it'll pack up again.

My question is, when doing output tests with the OBDeleven, should the engine stop? when it did the EGR cooler switch over valve the engine stopped. I've attached a screen shot of the test which stopped the engine.

I don't think it's the tandem pump as its intermittent and starts fine when it does. The tank pump works fine. I'm sure its electrical, perhaps something shorting out the ECM, could that stop the engine? Would a crankshaft position sensor show a fault on the reader?

I am afraid I cant help with this as mine is petrol, have a search on google for VCDS EGR cooler etc and see if there are any instructions for you to follow. Or maybe OBD Eleven

Thought i'd give an update incase anyone has a siminlar issue.

After it broke down initially (low revs, almost stalling as pulling away so a lot of engine movement) I had the car taken to my house where i had a look.
there was no 'priming' from electric lift pump in the tank so i ran a lead staright to pump so it would run all the time and the car ran. I took wire off and car ran fine again and started ok each time.

I checked out the fuel pump relays and all was ok feed and power contacts in car. So i assumed it was a relay issue. VW have a new part no for the relays and they are different which was suspect. I replaced the fuel pump relay and others of the same type if the old types could be iffy.
Car ran fine for 12 months then on my way to work i had a bit of wheelspin going up a damp hill and a bit of juddering then the car cut out again.
Same symptons, no power to electric lift pump. there was nono power to the relay. Fuses checked and all ok.

This time i took it straight to a VW specialist garage that was recomemded, they confirmed this. They said they had seen it before and its likely and bad joint or a broken wire. Taking the loom apart wasn't feasible so a new fused wire was run straight to the battery. It's been faultless since.

All other faults i think were from were i'd pulled out relays to check their continuity etc.
