What mileage is too high

Hi all, looking to buy a cupra r, budget of £2-£3000 so not huge. Ideally looking at cars with around 100,000 miles on the clock. There's a few about with 130,000+ on the clock.

Do I hang on and wait for one around 100,000 or are these cars still solid at higher mileage?

I'm coming from mk1 Mx5 which are known for going on forever. Obviously there's a bit more stress on everything in a cupra r!!

Thanks. I don't like the look of the advisory on the one in the link. Also, trying to stay away from another black car lol

Has quite a long list including oil leak which I'd rather stay away from. I should also say I don't want a yellow one.....so not asking for much really :roflmao:

If you want a pristine one with under 100k on the clock. In original condition it’s going to be around the 4 grand mark.
Problem with that is there’s sometimes plenty needs changing.
One that’s modded if done well may be better looked after and had more spent on it.
Or on the flip side been thrashed.

3-5k either way.

As for colours, blacks out, so is yellow, red may go pink so you’re really left with Platinum Grey, Silver and very rarely White.

Not looking for pristine as I know that won't happen for the money I have. Annoyingly I have found the perfect one but the seller just isn't getting back to me! I'm only going to try and stay away from modded ones because I want to go through the process myself.

Nice. Hope you find a good one.
Check buyers guide on here for plenty of tips. Even down to how to tell if horn is reversed etc.
Food for thought would be don’t be too hung up on mileage.
I bought my current car with 49on the clock looked mint. and as most on here know it’s had a small fortune pumped in to it.
Exhaust was not in best shape but I was changing it,so was turbo, VVTtensioner needed doing after a year. Ended up being over 2500 grand I didn’t plan on spending.
Flip side I had a Cupra and it did over 160k on original gear box and turbo and I ragged that daily.

Check it’s had cam belt and water pump. done.
Check mot for advisory on brake discs etc. Good discs and pads are expensive.
Good hunting.

I think I'm in the same boat as you! Want a silver, red or grey, 2004 or 2005 and as standard as possible.

Anything over 80k for more than £4K is overpriced and a car meeting my criteria pops up about once a month. Unfortunately they always seem to be 150+ miles away!

You've just got to be patient and stick with it because there aren't that many about now.

Here’s a good one just come up. But fully modded. Nice example though. You get Lots for the money.

I know, any idea where I would stand with insurance? Although it's pretty much a Cupra R I'm sure it would be classed as a highly modified cupra which is probably way more on insurance.

Highly modded for MOT means roll cage fitted etc.
Insurance will be high as modded and high bhp as with most.
Look at modified insurers like green light and adriann flux etc. Much cheaper. Then it’s down to crime in your postcode and things like on a drive or garaged making a difference.

Ok thanks. Think I'd still prefer a stock Cupra R though. Willing to look at the slighter higher mileage ones as well so will keep an eye out.
